My bike was showing the symptoms of shorting fuel pump wiring, running continuously, so after reading the posts about it, I decided to give fixing it a try. It would have been easy if I would have used more finesse and not snapped off one of the bolts holding the pump in. So, I had to go the long route of pulling the swing arm, etc, to get a shot at drilling out the broken bolt. If you are considering fixing your wiring, which is probably a darn good idea, be careful when you back out the locktited bolts on the pump. Use a little WD40 and take your time, working them in and out a little at a time. Also, the two large O rings on the pump housing were stretched and I had to carefully poke them into the groove as I slowly tightened the bolts, I would suggest that you get those o-rings before starting the project. Best case scenario, it would probably take about 2 hours, but it took me about 10.

So how'd the fix go? I did a remove before it had problems, because of the postings here. It was a good thing , because the wire insulation was getting worn thru.

Arry, Just got back from a 30 mile ride, it seems fine. Of course, it was running fine before I 'fixed' it, but the fuel pump ran constantly. It had the typical chafing on the wires, and I used heat shrink tubing and filed the sharp edge of the bracket.

Running continuously when the engine is off and the key on with the kill switch in the ON position?
