I did not like the "feel" of the clutch cable on my MZ Baghira so I changed it out with a modern one that has a Nylon liner. Much better now. I did, however, find that this and many other parts came VERY close to the exhaust pipes. Given that I had always wondered if exhaust wrap was of any worth I tried it on this bike to see if it would help protect those parts long term.
This bike, like the Uly, can be noted for its exhaust heat due to the route they run near your right leg. In this case it cut the heat by at least 50% and I can hold my hand at 10mm from the, leg area, double wrap junction at max engine temp with no problem. It is true to say that it does not look great or does it last forever but it does seem to work and it is easy and cheap to do. In this case it only cost me $10. It maybe, as others have done, worth a try on your bike. You may be able to better the cosmetic issues with some thought as well? |

Marc- they make a specific spray paint for coating the wrap and users claim it makes the wrap hold up much better and last longer. Not sure if it does much for the appearance. |

Go with the DEI Titanium wrap. It helped the heat from my Uly a lot. The installation is much cleaner, no water needed and no need to paint it. http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/ dei-cycle/motorcycle-exhaust-pipe-wrap-kits/titani um-exhaust-wrap-lr-technology |

Yeah, that Titanium wrap might be worth it. I used regular wrap and got it in black thinking it would go well with the blue. Well, it smoked and stank for a few weeks until it blended into a kind of charcoal gray. This was fine for a while. I didn't respray it and don't know if it would really have helped but after a year the wrap started to unravel until it looked like I was riding the Mummy. |

"Go with the DEI Titanium wrap". Yes I will get this next time and enough to do both bikes as well. I just got the cheap stuff to see how well it would work. |

Did I not read somewhere that wrapping the exhaust was not a good idea?? |

Mine were wrapped when i bought the bike....so i can't compare ...but i can tell you i do NOT have the comfort kit and the heat isn't an issue. |

Most exhaust wraps are meant for underhood and suffer from exposure to UV---replace every year--- and they will absorb and hold moisture against the pipes. Can make even stainless ugly in a short time! |

"Most exhaust wraps are meant for underhood". True enough and it is not going to last long on a bike with the weather and all. In the UK the heat from the exhaust on the Uly is not a big deal and we can "filter" through traffic as well. I would say though that if you are in the Southern US states it would be of significant help as long as you can deal with the way it looks on the bike. The DEI Titanium wrap is much better, looks better and should last longer but costs three times the price of the normal glass fiber stuff. I tried the wrap as an experiment and it seems to work well for a cheap fix. DEI also do "heat control" panels which you could use on the Ulys frame. At the end of the day the new fan logic or a "fan run" control mod on the bike is the way to go on the Uly if you can do it and works real good in either case. |
