well....dont count on it saving you if you break down....they claim they will tow your bike...or bring you gas...or help with a flat or a bad battery. For this you pay $45/yr. My bike broke down on my way home from work yesterday....around 5 pm. I called AMA at 6 pm to have the bike towed to my shop. A tow truck driver finally called me at midnight ....to tell me he wouldn't be here till 3 am.....then he never showed or called. Its now 8 am...14 hours after my initial call....I have been on the phone with AMA 14 times in the last 14 hours....And yet still I sit ...waiting on a tow truck they swear is coming. Its not like i live in the sticks or something...I live 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh PA in a heavily populated area....will i be renewing my AMA membership? What do you think? |

I've used AMA for towing about a dozen times over the last decade. I believe the longest I've waited was an hour. Once I did have a tow company change their mind last second, but then the AMA found someone else. Well worth the cash as the money goes to more than just roadside service. |

Yep I totally understand, but I'm surprised that AMA haven't canceled the call and got someone else to come out, like they did in my situation. I'm sure you are aware that the AMA doesn't actually do any towing, they just contract it out to thousands of local tow companies nationwide. Regardless who you get roadside coverage from (AMA, AAA, insurance, vehicle manufacturer, etc), they call the nearest local tow company to provide the service. Hopefully this tow company loses their contract and nobody else has to deal with shit service like you are. |

I have it, but I have never used it through the AMA. Experience with other such towing "insurance" has taught me to treat it more like a last resort. I've had trucks show up right away, and I have had them show up 8 hours later. I would only use it if there isn't a friendly trailer within shooting distance or if the time of day were too inconvenient to bother a friend. Your experience seems terribly extreme. It definitely sounds like someone dropped the ball if you live 30 miles outside of Pitt. If you pull off on the side of the road in Houston for too long, tow trucks descend like vultures. |

You can bet if you were illegally parked that that a tow truck would be there before the copper ended his call. |
