I have been searching but could not find any information on removing the bolts that hold the stator. Any suggestions? And for those of you who have completed this, what did you use for replacement bolts? Thanks for any advice as I have a garage full of parts and am stuck. |

They're conventional Torx head fasteners; I'm not sure of the Torx size but you shouldn't have any trouble finding the correct one. I didn't have any trouble removing them. The bolts are P/N 3029, "Screw, No. 10-24 x 1 TORX hd. w/adhesive" (Locktite). I used OEM replacement bolts but I'd think any bolt of the correct size would be OK, provided you coat the threads with high-strength Locktite prior to installing. |

Thanks for the P/N - they seem to be a t-20. but will just not budge and dont want to strip them out. I've tried heat and blunt force to no avail |

Well, they do have red Locktite on the threads so heat should help, but it'll be hard to get the heat down to the threads where you need it. You need to avoid damaging the crankshaft seal as well. Worst case, cut, drill, or grind the heads off, remove the stator, grab the bolts with Vice Grip pliers, apply heat directly to the threads, and hopefully they'll come right out. |

That's strange as I didn't have any problem removing them either. What Hugh is saying would be the wisest move as you don't want to break them at the point you will have to drill them out. That's really tough on such a small diameter. If you get them out you really don't need new screws, just clean out the holes with brake cleaner, clean the old Loctite off the threads and clean them with brake cleaner and reuse them with blue Loctite. I did mine this way and have many miles since. The main reason they tell you not to reuse hardware is because they want fresh Loctite on them. It's the lawyers that force them to do this because if you just put the old bolts/screws back in without doing anything to them they could vibrate out. Cleaning and using Loctite will insure they won't back out. |

Heads cut/ground off as they became too rough for the torx bit. had to use a gear puller to remove the stator. Off to go get new bolts and then will heat and remove the remainder of the bolts using heat and vice grips. Always one part of any project that turns out to be more than expected. |

Job complete, voltage testing great on stator output and at the battery. time to add the zip ties and do an oil change and put all the parts back on. Glad to have my Uly back on the road, but it has been nice to put some miles on the K75 again |
