Well boys and girls,,I hit 1000 miles more since I bought the ULY,,with 5k miles,,and unless there is bad juju awaiting me and the bike,,it is my favorite ride ever..

My ONLY complaint is trying to do the 25/30 mph zones in the right gear.some of these are a mile long.
I mean how long can we stay in 2 or 3rd gear..
Let alone fall down

Its like trying to lope a 454 Chevelle or a 429 Mustang threw a slow zone..

Sorry no pictures..lol..T

At speeds under 45, I'm almost always in 2nd or 3rd. Fourth and fifth are for highways and freeways. You must be trying to ride around at 2k rpm. You'll find that the bike works much better in the 3 to 3.5 range.

It may look a lot like a common H-D engine, but it is not tuned to run like one.

THX Mark..as long as I can stay in 2 or 3..2500 rpm works fine..3000 is better..thats for sure.
Just not used to staying there for too long..

"as long as I can stay in 2 or 3rd..2500 rpm works fine..3000 is better..thats for sure. Just not used to staying there for too long" It depends on what you are trying to do with the bike. This engine is like few others and you will need to adjust your ride style to suit it.

The throttle body cam is ROUND on the 06 bikes but OVAL on the later ones. This has a direct effect on throttle input to the engine. The 06 bikes can/ are very aggressive but is more subtle on the later bikes IE Better for normal road riding due to the fact you are not trying to keep the front wheel on the road all the time.

The 2008 setup is just fine..the slow zones are pretty few and generally no stop lights..just through school zones and villages trying to keep there ticket quotas full.
Another fine ride today..

Prior to acquiring the Ulysses, I had accumulated about 300k miles on air-cooled, pushrod-twin.......BMWs. The tuning is about the same.

3k rpm is great for local riding, 3.5k seems to be a happy zone for continuous steady cruising. So, 3rd gear in town works best, 2nd for residential areas.

A key difference between the XB and my older BMWs is that the BMWs begin to run out of steam as the revs pass 6k and the Ulysses pulls strong right up to the rev-limiter.

Race ECM & K&N on a stock can, it will cruise 2500RPM all day, smooth as milk.
