When someone fills their bars, what is it filled with (material) and how is it done? Does it really help or is it a placebo? I can see how bar end weights help reduce vibration. Don't currently have them. I'm considering them though. Do they fit with the factory grip shields? Was wondering if the bar end weights or the filling of the bars works better (or both). |

If you fill them with sugar pills, it would be a placebo. |

some people fill them with lead shot from shotgun shells...any weight you add is going to help with vibration |

I used BB's on a bike once, my Uly doesn't shake that bad to need anything. |

Mass damping a vibrating system produces a very real effect, no placebo. Whether or not putting lead into the ends of the bar would produce the desired effect is another question (although I would think it would help). |

They used to make a product called bar snakes, some kind of lead filled rubber tubes that you slid inside the handlebars. The reviews said they worked. I agree with fotoguzzi, the low frequency vibration I get is not a bother. |

Several folks who have replaced their worn front isolator have found that any nasty vibes they had went away. |

Unlike a lot of bikes the Uly does not have any rubber isolation at the bar mounts. You will always get a small amount of vibs at the bars but you should not notice it on the move. The low frequency vibration does not give you the "numb" bits like the high frequency type will. Vibration on the bike is not an issue but if it is there is something else wrong with the bike. |

I replaced my front engine mount isolator last fall. 90% of the vibration went away. Just working on the secondary vibrations now. I know what vibration is, especially at idle. I'm very used to it, having owned 4 different Harleys since 1997. If it bothered me, I would have stopped riding Harleys long ago. Still love 'em. With the front engine mount/isolator fixed, I now notice a bad dash vibration as the tach needle passes through the 1500-2000 RPM range (didn't have time to look into it before putting it away for the winter). Will be looking into that when I pull the bike out of winter storage and start riding it (the Michigan winter this year has been the worst ever--still have snow on the ground). The handlebars may be next on my list. Haven't decided whether to do anything with them yet. Doing some advanced research to see what my options are. |
