Turf - The needles still had a bit of the original grease on them, but not much. Both the needles and the roller rely on oil splash. Looking at the design, I'm not so sure the grease nipple mod really helps. Yes, the bike has been rock solid and I would buy another in a heartbeat. I have 89K on it now. 100K is in my sights! At 400 miles a week commuting it shouldn't take long...

I thought we were talking about the same thing. Thanks for taking time to post the pics. Very informative. Regarding the grease nipple mod, I have been assured by the designer of the mod, that it, not only works, but is essential. However, I am no tech, so I am a bit in the dark. I'm impressed by your mileage. XBs are much maligned, but are better than some of the detractors argue. Regarding your stata, did you always use the standard H-D gearbox oil? How often do you change the two oils? |

The reason it was said that this needed doing on the 06 bikes is because of a possible lack of lub at that point. I fitted one to my own 06 bike and it works fine. On the other hand, if you think about it, it is just as easy to remove the seal and squirt in some extra oil/ grease every 10k miles and then replace the seal. The seals are cheap enough so buy maybe 4 to be going on with or if you are real cheap cut a slit in the middle of the seal, add the oil with a syringe and then reseal with super glue and a big blob of silicon sealer on top. |

I have always used Mobile 1 15w-50 in both engine and primary. Bosch filter. Engine oil and filter at 5K Primary at 10K (Message edited by brakes2late on April 04, 2014) |

Shagg, the guy who developed it runs the British version of BadWeb: www.ukbeg.com. Someone on there would be able to give you a more informative rundown than me. Brakes, I note you're not in the camp that sees it essential to change the oils every 2.5K, both engine and primary. |

While you do not have to do this I think a good clean oil in the "running in" period makes for a better engine on these bikes in the long run. As best as I can tell, and had two of them, the Uly is STILL running in the engine to around 6000 miles. It is the sort of period you would need on the old air cooled BMW engines as well. I have found, but it is just me, that with miles the engine gets smoother and will "pick up" better/ quicker as does the transmission. |

Interesting point, Uly man, my old GS got better with miles. Uly, which oil do you use in your Uly? That question looks strange when you read it back. |
