Mine would growl at any speed but not real loud. I think I caught it pretty early. No noise in neutral and my inner bearing was fine. Shifting problem might be a bent fork. |

Well I got the bike back together and started last weekend. Then life got in the way and I just now took it for a ride. No noises, no leaks after 20 miles. |

Rode to work (40 miles) this morning and so far, so good. Except I no sooner got on the freeway and my fuel light came on! Dammit, had to pull back off and get gas. Hope that's the only thing I forgot to check! |

Well, riding home from work yesterday and the bike started making a grinding noise. Seems noisiest at 4K rpms. Revving in neutral seems normal. Only while in motion. I suspect the output bearing took a dump. Will be lifting the back and running it through the gears this weekend. |

Sorry to hear that! What year, and how many miles? |

I've got 43K on a 2007. Replaced crank at just under 30K. I ran it on a jack and things were pretty noisy all over. So I drained the primary fluid and it had a bit more debris than last time. Not too good. Chain was loose, so an adjustment was done. Ran it again and it was a lot quieter. Took it out for a ride and seemed like it may have fixed it. Fingers crossed. Will take it to work tomorrow. |

Were the debris magnetic? Could have been a loose chain wearing against the primary case, I'd look closely at the shoe on the primary chain adjuster also. |

Loose chain will do it, you should see the "machining" the chain did to the inside of the cover. |

Yes, they were metallic. I'll post a picture of it. Also saw shiny streaks on the chain on either side of the pins. Guess I let the adjustment go too long. Didn't take the cover off to see if it's been hitting, probably so. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's the clutch bearing going instead. |
