Yo, I was getting several CEL scares on a couple shorter rides all on one tank of gas. I could get the light to disappear by dropping the revs right down and the bike performance didn't change. New fuel and no more CEL. I tightened battery and other things with no change, but then new fuel and no CEL for over 300kms/220mi. Has this happened to anyone? Is it even possible? Cheers

Yep.
Mine was showing TPS a few weeks back until I switched gas stations. No more codes.

This was covered in that thread but the TPS code and the bad gas were not related.
The TPS is on the side of the throttle body and can't be touched by gasoline.
A misfire could have made the engine jiggle a loose wire though.

On my X1, bad gas has on occasion made the bike sputter and throw an oxygen sensor code.
I found that the header was a bit loose.

It acted up, I read the codes, it said TPS.
I changed gas stations, reset the TPS and it's been code free for around 1000 miles now.
I do 500 miles a week on this bike just going to and from work so they add up.
I'll post a few notes on this section of Badweb when it hits 100,000 which should be around late Spring of 2014.
Lot of oil and tire changes, that's for sure.

Thanks guys. I'm not convinced it was bad fuel but it could have been. My 09 should do its own TPS resets, but I'll do a manual one and see if I get any change. I checked all the fittings and the 02 sensor, they're all sweet. And the fact that I can just drop the revs and the light disappears has me stumped. I'll be doing an oil change and a TPS reset within the next week and see if that sorts it

The CEL is just a common light for many faults so it could be anything/fault. You can also have many, many faults on the bike and the CEL will not come on either. All I do know is that if it DOES come on you need to look at the bike for problems and/or the history.

Cheers Uly_man. Yep, time to check it out i think. I now have a cable and tunerproRT, but I'm no expert. Is there a link here to show how to get the codes from plugging an 08-10 bike in on TunerproRT?

Oh the other thing is that I still have the stock ECU with a custom map from Xopti for the Micron Serpent on it. THe bike doesn't run perfect with some holes in the fuel mapping, so it sometimes stutters or delays but its bearable. I have kept the active exhaust plugged in, but it sits loose in my open airbox. I have an EBR ecu on the way, to get rid of the stock ECU. I still need to check for error codes but the light comes on so infrequently that i thought it may not show a code unless its on!

If it was me I would not worry on the CEL unless it stays on all the time.

I would start with the basics. Check all wires for damage but mainly the ones that run in the sub loom over the rear cylinder head. Make sure the active exhaust servo is switched off and switch off the BAS as well.

Do a logged run using TunerPro. This will show if your sensors are working right IE Air, engine temps, etc. The data will also show things like fuel pressure, timing changes and the like. TunerPro, or other, is not perfect but it will show you things that you will NEVER be able to see/know just by riding the bike.

Odd, the dongle/CEL flash codes showed TPS.
Yesterday the bike died 100 miles from home with no working fuel pump.
Luckily, swapping relays on the side of the road got me going again.
