My uly sometimes bogs down from a dead stop in 1st gear. When I flick the throttle the revs struggle to hesitate to rise. It only happens from when im moving from stationary in 1st year. |

The first thing I'd suggest is a TPS reset. |

Small intake leak will play havoc on low rpm take offs. |

Its an 08 so there are no tps resets. |

Im going to replace the fuel filter and fuel pump strainer. Searching for old posts show there is an issue with the buell part no. For the strainer and the strainer not matching. Can someone please offer guidance on this. |

08 is really easy to reset the TPS. I have an 08 and do it every once in a while. |

I thought the 08 did not require tps resets? |

They still need em, No need for ECMspy or the like. It's done via the throttle. |

Is it this : The TPS zero procedure should be performed if the TPS or ECM are replaced or if the ECM has been recalibrated. To zero the TPS: a. Set the Run/Stop switch to the Run position. b. Turn the ignition key to the On position. c. With the engine off, rotate the throttle grip from closed throttle position to wide-open throttle position and back to closed position 3 times holding the throttle grip against each stop for 1 full second. d. Cycle the key off and back on. After this is done does the tps have to be set back to a specific setting? |

Yes that is the procedure. When you do that, it tells the ECM where 0% and 100% are, so it knows the throttle range. The TPS is self calibrating and typically does not need to be manually reset like that, but it can help when troubleshooting How is the idle? Is it idling rough or fine? Any hiccups or stalls? |

I'll be watching this thread closely... there has to be some common cause to these '08s running like this! In addition to my ongoing bogging issues my cold idle surge seems to be getting worse (stalling regularly) and last night it did something completely new... went to start it cold... it cranked over several times with no sign of starting then backfired like a shotgun. Turned off the ignition, turned it back on and it started on the first power stroke like normal. |

North_of_55, I'd be leaning towards your IAC system being gunked up. If the valve isn't opening enough, it won't get enough air into the motor to idle correctly, and it can make it harder to start (too much choke) |

I removed the IAC when I did my intake seals earlier this summer... with the intention of cleaning the gunk off of it. It was spotless! |

It idles ok. Occasionally when I first fire it up it stalls. Sometimes when setting off from a complete stop it sounds like a gasp and regardless of how much throttle i give it the revs dont move till 5 seconds later. Im gonna check the iac asap. Im going to do the tps reset now. When i park the bike there is always a strong smell of gas and sometimes i can hear the gas bubble and a drop will come out of the overflow. |
