So I removed the BAS and all has been great but the throttle thing is back again after a week. I am sure that the BAS was part of the problem as I no longer have the "engine miss" while going over bumps and holes on the rear wheel. Like the fuel was cut for a split second. This problem is you open the throttle, at any given point in the rev range, and it "bogs" down IE It will not accelerate any more. It does not do it all the time nor can I predict when it will do it. Having spent a lot of time with engine running problems I can now tell, from the feel of the bike and the exhaust sound, what the engine is doing. If all is right, on a hot engine, the exhaust tone is "light", the engine revs easy and the bike goes very well. In this case the exhaust tone has changed and the engine is slightly labored. It was ok but it has now gone back to this. It seems that I may have had more than two problems going on here. All I do know is that I would like to spend more time riding the bike that trying to fix its faults. The bike is starting to Feck me off. |

Have you looked into the cam sensor? Sounds like the timing may be retarding just as you need it to advance. Also check the wires on the Cam sensor. Mine were rubbed through on the chin faring. |

Many thanks for your input ET. I will look into that as it seems possible. Is it so little to ask that just once in a while the bike WILL run right. |

Or a bad BAS. Fixed that by turning it off and removing it. This problem is something else. |

It doesn't sound like the behavior of a bad CPS, those act like somebody is next to you cycling the kill switch for 3 second intervals (then turning it back on while they fire a shotgun ). Is the throttle shaft and butterfly OK? Any intake leaks? |

I just did a 11 min logged run from cold. It started playing up after 4 mins. All the numbers in the log look about right but the rear O2 sensor drops to zero volts a number of times and at one point it goes to zero for five seconds and the rear AFV goes up by 15%. It feels like a fueling issue so maybe the rear injector is sticking and/or has a bad wire/other. Maybe the rear O2 sensor is/has also gone bad but the next thing will be to turn them off for testing I just need to figure out how to do it with TunerPro. |

Ok so I did the "big look around" wire check on all of the bike. Having had a good look around the 10 bike I found that Buell have added many parts to stop wire rubbing. Even the HT plug wires touch nothing and most all wires have secondary protection via flexible plastic conduit. Good stuff Buell and a very solid effort. What I did find though were two wires with damaged insulation to the cores above the rear cylinder head. They had also rubbed away the paint at that point on the cylinder head. This I proved with a meter and they were going to Earth once in a while. The reason for this damage is because the loom was trapped between the plastic loom guide and the cylinder head IE Not correctly fitted at the factory. Sorry Buell but that was very BAD workmanship. This part of the loom has no Earths but picks up/feeds all the head stuff IE Injectors, IAT, idle control etc. I did a 11 min idle log and that looked good but will need to do a run to check if this has done any good. One thing is for sure wires going to Earth is not a good thing. So we will see? Wish me luck. |

A bit late now, but that's what warranties usually are for, correcting just such mistakes. With 12lbs of crap (metaphorically speaking) in a 10lb size bag; it's a wonder that there are so few problems. |

Just went for a 30 min ride and, at the moment, it runs perfect. Man this bike is SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD if it is running right. And the timing did not change to the wrong setting either as I can tell from the can sound and ride. So it looks like I had a few faults. A cut wire to the black ECM plug, a faulty BAS and two shorting wires (to engine head) on the sensor loom were FOR SURE. I hope it stays good. We will see, LOL. |

Good hunting! Simultaneous multiple failures can be a nightmare. Nothing to do but what you did, take your time and pour over all the potential problem points and clean them all up. Takes a while, but has the bonus of preventing future problems also. |

Yes it can be something of a pain in the ass. But like they say "It is worth it if you are strong enough".
Also nothing on this Earth, made by Man, is going to get the better of me one way or the other. (Message edited by uly_man on September 12, 2013) |
