Recently got back from a great trip to Hyder Alaska, The Uly performed wonderfully. We went with another couple that rode a Ktm 990 Adv. Put on a bit over 3k of spirited riding through possibly the most beautiful scenery we have ever seen. All but 30 miles or so was paved and temps were from 100'F in central Wa to somewhere in the 50s with pounding rain and pea size hail (only 4 hrs of bad weather). Loved how the bike handled fully loaded with the suspension set up per the manual with just a bit more damping dialed into the forks. Had Scorpion Trails on pumped up tp 42psi, they handled the asphalt very well with good confidence even with standing water. Whoever labeled them "trail" was pretty optimistic or were thinking of some of the suburban "trails" that are paved. I did not exceed 50 on a section of pretty nice dirt road and punctured the rear tire. Was in the middle of nowhere so just plugged it and am considering the D616 as replacements. We are recent Uly owners but have had an X1 for several years. Bought this for some road trips and more off road exploration. The X1 actually handles decent dirt roads much like a flat tracker and is a real blast (solo) to slide but don't have the practice in on the Uly. Have to say that it was good for about 125 miles or so before we had to get off and stretch out. I was expecting a bit better. Has anyone tried highway pegs? |

I applaud you for going on your Uly.....I just don't have the confidence in it to go on this type of trip so it is staying lower 48. Plan is to ride my Ultra or the new KTM 1190 adventure on my Alaska trip. |

I was pleased with the bike and would not hesitate to go farther from home. |

Sounds like a great trip! Glad it was mechanically (and electrically) uneventful. I have no problem riding mine until the fuel runs out; but if you are looking for highway pegs, then we have very different ideas of comfortable! |

but if you are looking for highway pegs, then we have very different ideas of comfortable!\ You're just not old enough yet!! I just finished a St. Louis to WV to NC to GA and back. I could have used some highway pegs too! Good job Toolin, that's on my bucket list! |

Agreed about the highway pegs. It's not the comfort. Any option to move your legs around is appreciated out on the road. |

I have never ridden with highway pegs or even wanted them before this trip. After a 400 plus mile stretch these knees of mine were wanting some relief. Not for corners and such but for intermittent change of position. I have the low seat on but may consider a custom seat before the next long ride as well. Next big ride might be hwy 1 & 101 down the West coast. |

There's a guy in England who was making a kit for the Uly to put them on. I've seen the pictures. Do a search on here if interested. Being able to move your legs around would be great on longer rides! |

I bought my 2006 model as new in February 2008, with zero miles and that summer went from London to sw Portugal for a holiday. All told, including running round there and the ride back, I did 4,689 miles. It ran faultlessly and of all the bikes I've done that run on (a total of 17 times plus Greece twice), the XB12X was the most comfortable. Other bikes, in chronological order, were as follows: Yamaha XT500E, Honda Africa Twin 750 RD04, BMW R1100GS and KTM 950 Adventure. |

Sounds like an awesome ride. On my 1900 mile Maryland to eastern Missouri and back ride I found just kicking my legs to the passenger pegs for a bit did the trick. Even so after 120 miles my 52 year old body was done. Would love to find a softer seat but I'm short of legs and the '08X seat is a bit too tall as it is. A while back a desert rider posted picture of his cabdriver bead seat. Seems like a great idea but then I would be on tippy toes. |

My bike has the 2006 seat and it is easily the most comfortable seat I've been on. And so spacey. I am also on tiptoes but the trade-off is lots of legroom on the go. |
