Are the individual parts for the rear shock available from my dealer? I realize servicing a shock isnt something most do at home but I do a lot of dirt bike suspension work and have all the tools and knowledge to do it, just need some parts. My rear shock has been weeping a little bit for some time and Im worried its gonna spew oil everywhere some day. I know its a showa shock and I think the shaft is 14mm but I havent measured it yet. is it the same seal the dirt bike shocks im used to working on use? |

Dave- the parts aren't available from Buell, but they may be available elsewhere. I believe at least a couple of guys have had their rear shocks rebuilt by suspension shops. |

According to Racetech's website, its the same 14mm seal most Showa shocks use. Available most anywhere. I will pick one up and hope its right. |

Racetech SSOS14 is the oil seal and SSDS14 for the dust seal if anyone is curious are the correct parts for the Uly shock. Mine had been leaking more than I thought and was pretty low on oil. I saw nothing else wrong with it but there is some discoloration of the shaft. Its a very simple shock and I can see why some places say to scrap it. |

Glad you got the parts. What's involved in the disassembly and rebuild? Some pics would be great for those of us that run into this in the future. |

Sorry I didnt take any pics. Its no different from most japanese shocks. there is a cover over the schraeder valve on the reservoir, it just pops off. I could find no info on recommended fluid so I just went with the Maxima light fluid I use in everything else. I think its a bit thinner viscosity than what came out but seems to work. If I dont like it I will order something thicker. Suspension fluid is confusing, the SAE weight on the bottle means nothing. Another thing I had no info on was nitrogen pressure, I just guessed again and went with 150, pretty common pressure. I only got a short test ride and it felt good, but anything feels better when your shock was only half full of oil before! |

Good info. How much were the parts? UJM rebuild kits can get pretty stupidly expensive pretty quickly. |

Both seals about $20. They have the shaft bushing and piston band also, dont remember the price but not much. All normal Showa parts. |
