Help, I am now busting through my second Buell Triple Tail Backpack in 5 years and need to buy a third as # 2 is showing signs of nearing the end of its life. No Buell Triple Tail Backpacks on ebay or amazon. I use it "DAILY" now to commute to work and will die without it. Does anyone know where to find one? Has anyone "hacked" another backpack to securely fit on the triple tail? I am sensing the need to do a "bungie cord" hack with my Swissgear laptop bag if I am not able to find Buell triple tail back # 3. If you have a Buell Triple Tail laptop bag in good shape and want to sell, please send me a personal message. Here is my hacked Uly Triple Tail Laptop bag solution: Old Buell Triple Tail bag on left which has little life remaining before laptop drops out of the bottom. Swiss Gear Laptop bag and bungie cords on the right. Two bungies wrapped (one wrapped horizontal, one wrapped vertical) around the triple tail hooked into the triple tail tie down holes. The waterproof cover also fits over the Swiss Gear bag. My Ulysses is in San Diego and I am in Chicago today so I had to use my "25 years of Buell" book to stand in for the Ulysses Triple Tail backrest. I will be in SAN tomorrow and will use new laptop bag then to prove my laptop bag hack. I am sorry to see one more piece of Buell innovation retired. I hope the EBR 1190AX comes out with a triple tail like device for my laptop bag carrying needs in the future.  - Marc | ||

I love mine but my backrest mounting stitches ate starting to come unraveled. I may try to sew them back with waxed dental floss. | ||

Mine started to come unstitched early on but after putting a strap around the tail and bag all has been good. | ||

When I lived in Colorado, there were several places that repaired tents, backpacks and other fabric-based outdoor stuff fairly inexpensively. Unless you have a lot of demand for quality outdoor products in your area, your repair shop options may be limited. REI is fairly common and used to have a repair service. The company REI sends all their stuff to is called Rainy Pass which you can probably Google to see if they deal directly with the public. (I'm sure they do.) Anyway, if you love the sack, repair might be your best (or only) option. | ||

I was curious myself, so I looked it up. Rainy Pass does deal directly with the public. I see that they are also partners with BMW Motorcycles and REV'IT, so they are obviously experienced with motorcycle gear as well. http://rainypass.com/consumer/ | ||

To be honest Marc I would not bother buying another. I bought one of these a while ago after my old tail pack died on me. http://www.renntec.co.uk/iqs/cpti.1182/dbitemid.12 19/sfa.view/all_luggage.html The more I use it the more I love it. Cheap, practical, well built, good design, easy to use and suits/fits the Uly real well. I did make a few mods to it just make it work better but it is easy and nothing hard to do. | ||

Hey Uly ... you should post a pic of this on the bike at some point. I'm always interested in new stuff and would be curious about this option if and when my Triple Tail bag dies. Thanks for the link. Another option, although not as streamlined and compact, is to go with the Nelson-Rigg 350. It has straps instead of a sleeve to go around the tail. Once the straps were adjusted the first time I've never messed with them again since. It is quite a bit bigger though. I used to carry it around ever day, on and off the bike, before I had the TT bag. You can fit a ton of stuff in it, and it is still the bag I travel with but not my daily commuting bag anymore. | ||

"Hey Uly ... you should post a pic of this on the bike at some point". Here you go. Mounted on the pillion seat.  Mounted on the back rest. Not what it was designed to do but works fine. It would be better to use the bungee straps for long term use.  And hanging on the bike with the removable shoulder strap. It can also be a back pack as well with the built in straps. I use my old 52 litre Ventura Pack I bought for use on my GS 1100 in 1996. It slots nicely over the Triple Tail. Fits a bit loose but okay when full and tied down. The Triple Tail is a brilliant, unique idea. | ||

Turf Moor is 100% right. My Ventura bag fits the tail, when it is up in the backrest position perfectly, and has snaps that secure it to the passenger grab rails. The new Ventura bags also come with backpack, shoulder straps, too! highly recommended! I use it on my Uly, when I need the extra storage and portability of the bag. | ||

I picked up a Tony Hawk brand backpack at Kohl's a couple years back. It has a flap on the back that is supposed to be for hauling a skateboard but it fits perfectly over the triple tail and holds it in place. -J5 | ||

I actually found a nice backpack on close out at WalMart of all places... it has a bottom facing pouch to go on a sissy bar. Just a hair big for the triple tail, but not by much, and it will be an easy to tweak when I get a time (and my index finger working again). It has two stays to keep it rigid when upright, a water bladder compartment, backpack straps, and a nice luggage like carry handle. I bought the two they had left on closeout.
