Thought I'd share a cheap fix for those that still deal with excessive right side heat- A few weeks back I was looking the bike over as I had it apart to perform a little maintenance. The heat on the right side had started to become annoying as the weather warmed up. I had been considering purchasing one of the aftermarket heat blankets to cover the openings under the seat, behind the airbox. I had a few aluminum baking trays in the garage, I figured I'd try to form one to cover that area to see if it made a difference before I shelled out the cash. What a dramatic improvement this has made! There is no more uncomfortable heat on the right side at all anymore. Fan on or off, moving, or stopped makes no difference. It's 95* in the shade here this afternoon, I just returned from running several errands on the bike- in shorts. Not my usual attire, but I couldn't have done that before this simple mod. The seat stays cool now as well, I can't believe what an improvement this has made. I'll probably upgrade to the custom heat shields at some point, but for now this has been working great. |

Kevlar cloth with foil tape on the underside. Also put it under the seat.

Kevlar core with aluminum tape wrap. Definitely helps. |

I installed the complete comfort kit (except for the exhaust pipe shield), Odies heat blanket (front part only) and EBR ECM with the new fan logic (fan only runs above 15 MPH) on my 08 XT. The heat is no longer an issue at all. I swear I could ride this thing all day long in shorts (not a good idea), even on the hottest days in Minnesota. |
