On the way to work this morning, my 07 Uly did something it did exactly one other time 10,000 miles ago. Actually, my XB9SX did it exactly two times in 30k miles as well. Riding along, and engine cuts out like somebody hit the kill switch. No spark, no backfire, no dancing tach, electrical still fine. (take the rest with a grain of salt, as I did it while crossing 3 lanes of I-75 during rush hour to dive to a safe shoulder before I was going too slow). The kill switch was on "run". Hitting the starter button either didn't spin the motor, or wouldn't start the motor (too much noise on the interstate and too many other things happening to tell if it was spinning, but it for sure wasn't starting on multiple tries). The clutch was pulled in. Coast to the side, still would not start. Still too much noise to tell if it was spinning. Cycled kill switch a few times and retried. Cycle ignition off then back on (not just kill switch), thumbed starter, and she fired right up perfectly, and ran fine for the rest of the trip. So I'm guessing bank angle sensor, but am wondering if I should look at the fuel pump as well. I have about 30k miles on the bike. Previous owner did a nice job on a tail mod, and moved BAS, not sure if it is where it is supposed to be or not, or if it was recalled / updated. (interestingly, I was also doing that 50 mile ride "one gear lower" at the time to see if I want to switch to the XB9 primary or not... which sits on the shelf waiting to go in. And I-75 flows move pretty quick that time of day, so I had been pulling at 4500 RPM for 10 minutes straight when it happened. I think that is a red hearing, but it is worth mentioning). |

I would lean towards the BAS. The kill switch does not reset it, only the key does. The kill switch resets the ECM and fuel pump, and you would hear it reprime each time. The 06 and some 07s had the BAS recall, which moved it from the original position near the ECM to up right behind the tail light. It is possible the BAS got cooked in the old position before being moved, shortening its life. Honestly since it is pretty cheap I'd just get a new one, slap it in and be done with it. |

Had the same exact issue before, though with more frequency. BAS. |

Did the CEL light come on? |

The CEL was definitely NOT on when all was said and done and I was running again. I don't think it was on when I was cycling the kill switch (before the ignition reboot) coasting down the shoulder. I thought of a post you made earlier Froggy describing the "ignition switch reboot" being tied to the BAS. Thanks for the datapoint Beuwulf, good info. |

Definately sounds like BAS, i had it happen on my X1...I turned it off with ECMspy, it ran sweetly until the day i sold it,I did the same when i bought my Uly, one less thing to go wrong on a trip.... It sucks waiting on the side of the road till the bike eventually wants to start...it was anywhere between 5mins and two hours on my X1. |

They were suppose to change my BAS during my first service but didn't. I ended up putting in the Comfort Kit which keeps heat away from this area so I never moved mine and never had any problem. But anything electrical can always shoot craps so that sounds like a logical place to start! |
