I replaced my starter motor gasket about 200 miles ago and can see oil coming from the stator plug? Is there a gasket back there and would I have to remove the primary cover and the starter motor to change the gasket if there is one? |

I also wanted to ask, should it be changed as a priority? I'm doing a 5000 mile trip and will be topping up the oil along the way, if I don't have to replace it right now I would rather not. |

"oil coming from the stator plug?" What position is that plug? The stator is the charge windings and has no PLUG? |

There's a rubber grommet around the wires where they exit the back side of the primary case and it is known to leak on occasion. You might try wiggling the wires from the outside of the case to see if you can make the grommet "re-seat" somewhat. The best way I know to fix it is to remove the primary cover, pull the grommet back into the primary case, and clean all the oil off the grommet and the hole through the case. Coat the groove in the grommet with RTV silicone and pop it back into the hole. |
