WooHoo! My new Tourances will be here on Tuesday, looking forward to getting them on the bike. I still have the well worn OE Syncs on it, at about 6800 miles, it'll be nice to have some new rubber. I read too many conflicting opinions about the Trails and the 616's, so I decided to try the new Tourance now that they're available. I'll post my impressions when I get a few miles on them. | ||

I'll be following this... I'm close to needing a set myself. I have been considering the Pirelli Angel GT's for their dual compound. What made you go for the Metz's? | ||

The Tourance is a dual purpose tire, ie. street/trail. The Angels are street only. | ||

Looking forward to your opinion. I'm running the Trails now and love them but have always been a Metzeler fan, even though they were bought out by Pirelli. | ||

I chose the Tourance Next because it's a dual compound, dual purpose tire. I've run Metzelers in the past on other bikes with very good results. The harder compound in the middle of the new rear tire should provide additional mileage, while preserving cornering and wet weather grip with the softer compound on the outer edges. Here in CT, there's a lot of pavement between my home and any decent trails, I'm hoping this works out to be a good compromise. | ||

Just ordered this for the rear on mine. Pirelli Angel GT Sport Touring Rear Tire We will see how this works out. Getting ready for the ADK II Buell rally in NY. | ||

What did you find for the front? All I see is 19's and 21's for the Tourance front. The narrowest rear is a 130, will that work for the front? | ||

Well I'll be.. Metz finally hit the market with another dual-sport option.. (albeit more on the "street-ish side" looking tread pattern) The dual compound should be a blessing for mile munching.. I wish Dunlop would dual compound the 616's, I'd never so much look at another tire (love em') Keep us posted (w/pics too) | ||

Unfortunately, they're still wrapped together just like the photo shows. Right after they arrived, work became ridiculously busy. I haven't had time to get them on the bike. Things should slow down a bit in a week or two, I hope to get them mounted soon. I'll post my impressions as soon as I do. | ||

I finally had a chance ; off from work, was able to get the Tourances mounted and installed, along with a new drive belt. This was the first time that I put the Uly on my motorcycle jack. The jack point indicators are perfect balance spots, a couple of tie straps to the handlebars made it reasonably solid. I think I'll make a cradle for future use though, then it cant 'walk' on the jack. I reviewed the SM for a few minutes before starting, everything was as described. Had both wheels off in about an hour. I dropped the wheels and new tires off at the local indy, and came back home to swap the belt, while i waited for them to finish. Picked them back up after another hour or so, and put everything back together. That took a couple of hours until it was complete. I adjusted the pressure to 42 rear and 40 front. I've run Metzelers on my Harleys in the past, they always liked a little more pressure than others. Both sidewalls on these indicate max load/pressure at 42, so those pressures should be fine. Took it out for about 20 miles, they felt more solid than the Pirelli's that came off, which had 7000 miles and were slightly cupped. I didnt push on them at all yet, but the bike turns in with little effort, seems to stay planted, and feels solid. No road noise up to the 60 mph that I made it to on back roads. Handlebars are solid, no decel wobble. So far, so good. I'll measure the tread depth before I start riding them, and monitor it as miles rack up. Hope to hit a couple of gravel roads and trails in the next week to see how they feel off pavement. Got it out yesterday for a few hundred miles. I really like the new tires. A good chunk of those miles were gravel roads and forest service roads. the tires felt solid on everything from triple digits on the highway to a little bit of mild single track. No mud or deep sand, but I don't expect them to shine there. They feel much more solid in cornering than the Pirelli's they replaced. (but to be fair, those were well worn in the center, and had some cupping). They transition quickly, and stay planted with little correction. A good start, I'll update as the miles add up, but they seem to be another good alternative at this point. | ||

Any updates? I just ordered a set, hoping they will last as long as the Pilot Roads I have now, and maybe be a bit better in the gravel. | ||

I'm only about 800 miles into them so far, but all seems good. I've been spending most of my riding time lately on my other bike. Hoping to take a day off later this week to ride the Uly. I haven't been in the rain with them yet, I'll post when I do. | ||

Just wanted to report back that I have 3500 miles on my Tourance Nexts and the rear is about done in the center. Kinda disappointing since I got 8000 miles from a PR3 and the Metzelers cost more. I hope to squeeze another 500 miles out of it before I take it off. | ||

Too bad about the mileage. Have you bought a replacement yet? The P3's are a street only tire. I know there have been a lot of mixed feelings on the Dunlops but many people prefer the D616's on the X model. This might be a good choice as they are on sale at Cycle Gear now. Just a thought. | ||

The 616 didnt last for me either. I spend most of my time on the street so its going to be another PR3. I used my last one on gravel roads just as much as I have the Metzeler and it did just fine. I was always worried about getting a flat but never have. |
