Hi guys, I took my Uly for a long run to see a fellow Buell forum member who kindly helped me with solving the misfire I had. It turned out to be the front HT lead which had rubbed and worn through the insulation. We also notice whilst changing spark plugs that my rear plug threat is partially stripped! :cry We got a new plug in and tight and it did hold on my 90mile return ride, but i think this will require a repair.... I took only two pics all day but the is at the White Horse hill near Avebury, UK. So in named that picture: Dark Horse @ White Horse! Anyway, got to get one thing sorted out! I will check my options for thread repair etc. Thx Lars |

"my rear plug threat is partially stripped!". Sorry to hear that, Lars. You can, or could, get a paste that would fix this as long as it is not very bad. If it is you will need to fit a Heli-Coil in the head. Thats easy to do but the access to the head is the problem. |

Skip the Heli-coil, get a Timesert. Where heli-coils are just threads, a Timesert is a closed tube with inner and outer threads. Installing the insert expands it to solidly seal and retain the insert in the head. I have a kit at work for spark plugs, very easy to use and makes a perfect seal. Zack |

Thanks for the tips. I need to check if i can find a local mechanic to do this as i dont have the tools nor the right technical knowledge to do it myself. We shall see. For the time being I ride my Honda. |

The insert I used on flhr rear head called for a sealant on outside of insert . Went by instructions to the letter. Let set overnight before firing motor off . Took 4 starts at least before back plug got a ground to start firing. Run weird on front jug only and didn't know what was wrong at first. Finally started firing and no trouble since done in 03 . Didn't know name was timesert as got it from shop toolroom. If ya gotta insert it , that's what to use ! |
