I am having a problem with the idle on my 2009 XT. It has about 17,000 miles on it. For the last few months I would get some occasional stumbling and stalling at idle, but this would pass and the bike would run normally afterwards. Over time this got worse, and now the bike does not idle at all. It starts normally, but after a moment it dies when it goes to idle. If I keep the throttle open and the RPMs up it will continue to run until I let go of the throttle. I changed the plugs and wires. There are no trouble codes from the computer. I cleaned the IAC, but it wasn't really dirty. I can't see cracks in the computer's connectors, though I haven't taken it out and inspected it closely. What should I try next? Is there a way to test the IAC? I am hesitant to just start replacing parts at random. |

Do a TPS reset with the engine hot. |

Intake seals possibly? you might try a little propane around the flanges to see if the rpm changes while keepin' er' runnin'.. To my knowledge, this has been a prevalent issue to the point that "Twin Motorcycles" has developed new improved seal flanges.. they just completed long term testing, and are now selling em'.. Oh yeah, & a hot TPS reset, like ratbuell mentioned ^^ (Message edited by thumper1203 on April 08, 2013) |

I tried resetting the TPS with a hot engine a few days before it quit idling completely. It didn't make a difference. |

I would start checking for ground wire connections. Look at the throttle plate to see if it has carbon build up on its edges. This will make an erratic idle and mess up a TPS reset. Double check the plug wires for seating properly and completely on the coils. |

I have the same problem with my 08XT. I just purchased new intake seals anticipating they are bad. I have new plugs and wires. I disassembled the IAC and cleaned the throttle body. I also purchased a new oxygen sensor, IAT sensor and head temperature sensor to replace will I have the throttle body off. I also have a EBR race ECM that was relocated to eliminate the connection issue. I have not had a chance to try a propane test. I just have not had the time. I would not spray contact cleaner or some other type of solvent to check for a leak.Mine will idle once it get up to operating temperature. Perhaps I will have time to work on it this week end. |

"I am hesitant to just start replacing parts at random." No do not do that. It could be lots of things but do the basics first. Re-set the TPS as per year ie on the throttle. Check the throttle cables are set right. Go from there. |
