Not for sale: 2008 Buell Ulysses. 22K miles. Bike hasn’t been meticulously maintained, but oil changes have been done at the proper intervals. Upgrades include Buell side and top luggage, Heat Troller for heated vest and/or gloves, and digital voltage monitor. Because I parted out my 2007, this bike package includes the following extras: Extra front and rear wheels, header, frame, seat, muffler, tank bag, tail bag, and other extraneous bits. Also includes spare belt, rear set of bearings, and shop manual. Reason not for sale: I had every intention today of buying either a Triumph Explorer 1200 or Yamaha Tenere. I rode them both and decided that the Triumph was the better bike for my purposes. With WA tax, dealer set up, etc., the Triumph came out at 18,500. I was offered 4200 as a trade in. I told dealer “12K and my Buell” and was told “not even close.” Planned on riding away letting the dealer stew over my offer. Immediately realized upon getting back on the Uly that neither bike was anywhere near the bike for my purposes that the Uly is. And, for 12K I could buy two more Ulys. Sanity restored, no sale pending. No cash in hand required, and no fly and ride necessary. Thanks for looking. |

Almost the same experience here. Was offered $3500 for my 2008 XT on a Strom, if I put new tires on it. I decided to keep the Uly and buy a KLR for less than half what the Strom would have cost with trade. I think two are better than one. No sale here also. |

I like your thinking. At $18,500 I couldn't justify a new bike purchase either. Tempting, but not a sane choice. |

Brilliant! Ulys are an insanely good value right now. |

NOT a confession. A 'hypothetical' dealer gets in touch with a number of posters on a bike forum and asks if 'this particular guy' is good for the money he is offering on a new Triumph. They say H*LL NO, are you kidding! That 'particular guy' is pulling your leg and will be back on the forum posting hilarious stuff about how he got a new Triumph, 'on the cheap', and how the Bozo salesman bought his load of pooey, hook, line and sinker! A 'hypothetical' meeting between that 'number of posters', with smiles and high fives, all around, occurred after the sale fell through. NO WAY they could allow that 'particular guy' to have no reason to spread his great humor on the forum any more! Glad you're still with us, Ski! |

I've been flirting with getting something new... Even took a new VFR1200F for a test ride... Fact of the matter is I have way too much sentimental value in the bike... Not to mention sweat equity and big time money... I would guess i have well north of 15,000 in the bike as it sits including purchase price new in 2006. It seems I am putting close to a grand in it a season because stuff wears out or breaks, but it is a labor of love at this point. I always said it was a perfect bike for me, then would go drool at other bikes trying to figure out how I could replace my uly with it... Then I remember my Uly isn't worth jack and the new bikes are really damn expensive and I don't ride enough to justify a payment right now. Anything in a decent price range doesn't appeal to me (Versys, NC700X etc.). It's a vicious circle... Can't wait to see if EBR ever comes out with some new stuff if it will lure me away from my beloved Ulysses. |
