Anyone have experience with the Diablo's on their Uly? Cycle Gear has a deal in April, front and rear for $210. The best price I've found on Scorpion Trail's is about $280 for both. Are the Trails worth the extra $$? |

I think that's an old discontinued model. It's been replaced with the "Angel" model. I ran those Cycle Gear specials, same tire, a couple of years ago on my S3T and got less than 5K miles on them. I was used to 14K on the front and about 9K on the rear with other Pirelli tires. |

Which Diablo model? Diablo is a line of tires, some like Diablo Strada are great sport touring tires, and the Diablo Rosso is a great sport tire. Personally I love the Scorpion Trails and Angels, you can't go wrong with either. |

Strada's were OEM tires on the XT's, but that model was discontinued a few years ago and replaced by the Angels. According to most fit charts, you need to get the "E" spec tire for the rear of the Uly although many people don't bother. That's all besides the point, what Cycle Gear has on sale is not the Strada and may not be suitable for the Uly, but that is a good price. |

I ran Diablo Stradas (devil street) tires twice. Nice enough tire. Pushed 10,000 miles out of the first pair. Should have changed them out at 8,500 miles like I did on the second set. Then Ran the cheaper Diablo Sport tires. Not as nice, but did 6,000 plus miles on them. They had miles left on them but I had a pair of Angels mounted on another set of rims and was chomping at the bit. I really like the angels. I'll probably be on Scorpion Syncs for HomeComing2013 at the end of May/1st of June. Need some tread for the campgrounds. If your riding pavement, go with Angels. |

Griffmeister, please tell us what the "E" spec means again. Isn't that only for real heavy touring bikes? Thanks! |

American moto tire calls it a Diablo Supersport. Here's the CG ad- [IMG]http://image.issuu.com/130314203926-2c5ee9480ffe43 9f91577144d0c674f6/jpg/page_43_thumb_large.jpg[IMG] |

Yeah, the "E" spec has a higher load rating. It's a 2-ply tire instead of a single ply. I don't remember the actual load that they were talking about, something like 650 lbs maybe? I do know it sounded higher than needed until you consider that the Uly "dry" weight is about 480 lbs. Add to that your fluids, driver and passenger that could easily top 200 lbs each and goodies in the three bags and you have yourself a pretty heavy bike. If you check out some of the motorcycle parts suppliers on the web that have a "fit" search, they will recommend the "E" spec for the Uly. On the same note, Michelin only recommends the PR2 for the Uly and they have a "B" type which is said to be for loaded or two up sport touring. Same idea, different letter. |

An update of sorts. I was looking to see if any good sales were going on, BikeBandit.com has the Angel ST "E" spec for $188. Then I went to the Motorcycle-superstore.com website where I saw that they list an Angel GT "A" spec sport touring tire instead of the ST "E" spec. They also had the regular Angel ST tires listed as "closeout" pricing. Does this mean that Pirelli is doing a model change again? The official Pirelli website is not very helpful in this respect. |

The Angel GT is a new model, yes. I wasn't aware of them discontinuing the ST, but that doesn't mean they aren't. The GT is supposed to perform the same as the ST, but is dual compound and supposed to give a fair bit more tread life. I just bought a set of GTs for my 1125CR, hopefully they really are just as good as the STs with longer tread life. |

I've had 2 sets of Diablo Stradas, and one set of Angel ST's. No problems with either, decent life out of them. Lots of tar and chip roads in Western PA, and mainly highway miles to work. |

I asked and Pirelli replied. Yes, the Angel ST is discontinued and replaced by the GT. The web site is being updated still so they sent a PDF of the new 2013 brochure. There is a fit chart and the recommended tire for the XT rear is the Angel GT 180/55ZR17 A-Spec. They say that the GT uses new compounds (the ST was already a dual compound tire), has a modified tread pattern on the rear tire and should get a 15% improvement in mileage as well as maintaining performance throughout it's life span. How's that for a run-on sentence? An interesting point mentioned in the brochure, dyno testing your bike will void the tire warranty. I'll keep all this in mind for next time. I already ordered an ST from Cycle Gear and had them price match the sale at Chaparral Motorsports. The GT might get better mileage but I need to save a few bucks this year. Besides, this will be my third ST, they've been pretty good. |

Griffmeister, thanks for all the info! I am planning ahead for my next rear tire. I currently have the Angel ST but it is the standard model, not the "E-Spec". Are you running "E-Spec" on your bike? I only ride 2-up occasionally but have had no issues with the tire other than squaring off the tread due to lack of curvy roads. Now I see they make the Angel GT in an "A-Spec", as you stated, for heavy touring bikes. Is the "A-Spec" different than an "E-Spec"? Do they even make an Angel GT in an "E" or is it only available in "A" and standard? |

I can't seem to find any reasoning behind the letters but yes there is only one special designation. Therefore, an ST for heavy sport touring is an "E" but on the GT it's an "A" and that is the only choice. The only other difference is that the "E" spec only came in one size, for the GT they offer three sizes in "A" spec. You're running the regular ST and I think you've seen many of the other tire posts where people are running all sorts of tires. I would venture to say that running solo most of the time could be okay on many tires. The only word I've heard otherwise is when the tire manufacturer has your specific bike listed in their fit chart and I've only seen this in two brands, Pirelli and Michelin and each only offers one tire for the XT. Michelin gives more flexibility listing their "B" type as for loaded or two-up sport touring and allowing the regular tire for solo. At least nobody here is talking about "darksiding" and using car tires, that would just invite disaster. |

I've ran them on twice and get about 7K out of them. They're a perfectly good street sport tire and left me wanting for nothing more, (on the street). I even did a fair bit of off-road riding with them but don't expect them to act like knobbies. I didn't run them on the track. I would expect them to turn greasy on the track if you pushed them hard. Otherwise, I liked them and will buy them again. They're a good deal for a set of tires. |
