Hmmm - All these past few posts sum up the full spectrum of what attitudes are out there. Very comprehensive. EBR has to move faster with a "peek" Its gonna have to be good ... At this time, we have no alternative but to move on to other brands. I wanna see it now. |

I wish a few sneak peaks would be released every now and again. Like the teaser bits of the 1190 before its release. It sounds like the natives are getting restless, and a "leaked" pic of this part, or that part of the bike would do a lot to fuel speculation and imagination. I can't wait to see it. I'm just afraid it will be beyond my budget. |

People are worried about what the price of an 1190 AX will be, so I went online and priced the BMW GS1200, Ducati Multistrada and KTM 1190 Adventure. All three have an MSRP between $19,000 and $20,000. So an AX that's priced at 20K will be right in the ballpark. I sure do wish that Erik would change his mind about Sport - Touring motorcycles, though. I'd love a mile eater that has EBR on the tank. An S3-T update would have me enthralled. Something with the beauty and feel of an S3-T combined with the reliability of my '06 Uly. Hey; it costs nothing to dream... |

Uly man why are you so down on Buell if you love your Uly so much? Not quibbling with you, just trying to understand the paradox here. I'm considering buying a Uly and don't want to make a mistake. Your perspective might help with that. Uly_man Posted on Wednesday, March 06, 2013 - 08:33 am: I love my Uly but I will not buy another Buell even if it was free and came with a never ending supply of Big Macs? They can stick there AX up the the place the sun dont shine. |

Nukeblue, You are the prodigal son, but it is not time to make your way back home just yet. Soon Erik will welcome you back with open arms, a new pair of boots and a bike to sit on. You will know when to start your journey. |

General, Despite a number of flaws and strange engineering choices, the Ulysses is a really good bike. I have two of them, along with three four cylinder Kawasakis, a Honda VFR 750, a Guzzi 1100i, a BMW K100, and a couple of dirt bikes. Actual dirt bikes. Not the XB12X or the XB12XT. Oh, and a GW1100 sidecar rig. Fuel tank is too small. Stoopid fan runs constantly, and I don't think I should have to spend a bunch of $$$ to fix the engineers' mistake. The damned things sure are tall. Rear brake sucks. Great midrange, but nothing at all on top. Yes, I am spoiled by the big bore hot rod ZX12R, but even the VFR has a lot more on top. So does the old 1000 Concours with all the luggage on it. Easy to ride quickly using all that fat midrange, though, so you can ride faster than you would expect. Handles really well, and the suspension is very adjustable. Learn how to dial it in... Decent fuel mileage in the low 40s. Never had a problem with either one. Not. One. Ever. |

I'm still freaking out on styling issues with these ADV bikes. They are all getting better with performance and comfort. But UGH! Ugly nasty creatures from some designer from a train wreck hell. All in the eyes of the beholder - The BMW is the best seller but the fugliest contraption ever - the Tenere is mmmm - un attractive. God love KTM's heart, they still have that briefcase or toaster look and then they plaster those big honking decals on it. The Guzzi comes close to looking like a real bike and the Multi Strada has a little sliver of Ferrari sex appeal - if you're in to the plumbling section of your local hardware store. Then there is the new Triumph - thankfully - there are already some efforts being made by the aftermarket to put some lipstick on the pig. The Uly was getting there with a few good lines, but it had a face that only an insect mother could love. Just MHO, and that doesn't count or I'd be a builder, too. I really hope if the Uly AX hits the ground, it will be a "looker". I figure it'll be a runner. |

On my first look of a Uly I thought it was strange. Getting on it I thought it was ugly but the ride, even though that bike was crap, had me thinking more could be had. Yes the Uly is no great "looker" but this type of bike is more "function" over form. That is to say they do not have the bits that are easy to damage if doing "off road" work. The Uly has a style that grows on you with time. Although I am no great fan of the beak thing and I will change that to XT style at some point. Just me though. |

I must be in the minority. I love the styling of the Ulysses (and all the Buells, even the CR)! I agree the Tenere is terrible looking but to me, the rest of the adventure bikes look the business. |

I'm with Red450. I really like the looks of my red XT but I have to admit it looks way different then any other bike. So weird looking that it looks cool. |

To me they both look good. Add a 21" front wheel to the Uly, run the exhaust under the tail and remove the chin fairing and they look like siblings. I like naked bikes with a flair of industrial styling. Screw aesthetics, I want to see how it functions and have easy access for maintenance and repairs. |

Looks are funny. I really like naked bikes with a "mechanical presence," yet I've never really liked the Uly's appearance (Mrs. Greg does...) But I really like the GS's looks. And my 2010 Multistrada 1200S...somewhere in the middle, so-so. While I will always be very interested in Erik's designs (he's a fellow M.E.) I am looking forward to riding the new GS. It'll probably be too big for me, just like the previous one. --Doc |

I've always liked the ULY's beautimus looks. Doc, as a fellow engineer I'm surprised that you find the ULY lacking in the looks department. Function over form for me but in the ULY's case it hits on both accounts. Ugly to me are the cruiser bikes with the enormous gas tanks that make them look beyond ridiculous, mostly the Japanese ones. Eye of the beholder I suppose. |

Lawdy - I must be old school! Form over function is such a loaded catch phrase. An old work truck has a certain amount of styling to it, I guess. Its all in the eyes of the beholder. From tip to tip, IMHO a 68 BSA lightning or an old Sportster had some "ultimate" styling cues. Flowing lines and tasteful, shiney" parts is what added a bit of accent to their function. Vincent had "sculpted" controls that added a bit of flare to their function. Early Yamaha enduro's and especially Husqvarna moto cross bikes we're eye candy. Honda's CB 750 was an uncluttered statement of function, but it had an understandable form. Believe me, the function of the new bikes is far beyond the old school machines. But a fender is a fender and it should be styled with a certain reverence to its function. A plastic imitation beak is ghastly. If the beak enhances performance, fine! But make it look like a motorcycle and not a duck, and a bunch of insectoids having a party in the plumbing section of the big box store. IMHO the Italians have the corner in styling the ADV bikes. The Guzzi looks like a bike and the beaky part of the Multi Strada has an aerodynamic appeal. Check out Indians new engine - it looks like a motorcycle engine with an obvious concern to form and function.

I would say that new Indian engine is downright beautiful. Just like an old flat head. Those bikes will sell. I'm betting Polaris will make sure that baby is rubber mounted. |

The new Indian engine is stirring up a lot of commentary - apparently there has been a zillion hours of testing and its bullet proof. Maybe Indian will produce an ADV bike with wood grain panels [ I;e Jeep Grand Wagoneer ] with this engine and call it the Scout. http://thekneeslider.com/indian-reveals-the-thunde r-stroke-111-v-twin/ |

When I first saw the Ulysses, I thought it was ugly. I wanted a Lighting Long but when the local dealer had the Buell Demo test fleet at their dealership. I first test rode the XB12SS, then the Ulysses. I bought the Ulysses because of the ride and handling. I said I was going to change the front fender and the mirrors, but I have since changed my mind and kept my Uly with the stock look. It may not be the best looking motorcycle, but it's the best handling and most comfortable motorcycle I've ever ridden. |

I do the same, Ulyranger! Hey, it is great to see your name again! I've wondered if you still had your Uly. I knew how strongly positive you were about it early on and it's great to see that has continued. |

The looks of my Uly, like the looks of my Saab 9-3, keep growing on me. And the black Uly's with no luggage are genuinely pretty naked standards... they have a really cool stance about them. |

I was up in Minneapolis last Friday and stopped at a couple of dealerships to look at bikes, just for fun. The more I look at the Triumphs, Ducatis, Yamahas and BMW's and their price tags, the more I like my Buell. Don't get me wrong, those others are great bikes but I still like the looks of my XT better. The Triumph, Yamaha and BMW just seemed so big when I sat on them, and I'm 6'0" and 230 lbs (up five lbs from last time I checked ). Not sure how a smaller person would ride one of them. I really like the looks of the Ducati but the seating position did not work for me. It felt like I was sitting down in the bike and too far forward. Does that seat move back at all? Anyway, the price tag on all of them puts them out of my league for now, at least until my daughters get out of college. Thanks. |

As far as ADV bike styling goes, the Uly seems to be the best as its function was blended well with its form - it is a very innovative machine - but I still think the Guzzi is the best of the current lot. I look for Indian to break the mold with a new Scout.

Dang that's a nice looking Indian! I see bikes from other makers I am sure I could be happy with, but they are all 3x or 4x the price of my Uly. |

It looks like a boat anchor minus the chain. I haven't seen any specs on it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the motor weighs just as much a Ulysses. I sat on an Indian at the IMS, I sat on the bike and literally could not get the bike off the sidestand. |
