I have a 06 Uly, race ECM, Drummer muff and K&N filter. Im changing work hours and hit will need to hit the road at 5:30 am. Neighbors are good folks and next door sleeps days after she does her hospital o'dark30 shift. The Bike is loud, kinda hate to do this but Im considering going back to stock muff. Besides a TPS reset, will it run OK with the race ECM or do I need to go back to the stock one of those also? Thanks guys |

There is nothing wrong with the stock muffler, you might find you enjoy the bike more with it than the Drummer. A TPS reset is not required, as changing the muffler has nothing to do with the throttle position sensor. I do recommend you swap the stock ECM back on, as the race one does not have the programming to actuate the muffler valve. A TPS reset is not required for that either unless you installed it on someone elses bike and then did a reset there. |

Thanks froggy. Can the stock ECM fueling be changed and if so why the race or EB version then? |

Just have the stock exhaust power coated before putting back on. The rusty muffler sucks! |

Hi, I bought a baffle for my Drummer from Kevin Drum and have been very happy with it. Just knocks off enough of the noise and improves low end torque. I thought I would be taking it out occasionally but never have. He runs one himself. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=1711591#POST1711591 |

I ran an aftermarket exhaust on my 9sx for about half a season, and then went back to stock, and couldn't be happier. I've been stock ever since. The Supertrap on my M2 was nice... a bit louder than stock, but not that much. |

I also went back to stock on my 06 and won't have it any other way now. The ride is much more enjoyable IMHO. I would also go back to the stock computer. That will require a tps reset but I think you'll be just as happy with the stock setup. |

If you're interested in selling your drummer, let me know. I have been kicking the idea around for awhile |

Ratman, I found the Drummer a bit too loud for my tastes too. I tried the dB killer and it worked, but sounded horrible and took some of the fun (power=fun) away. Reached out to Kevin and he advised I drill a 1/4in hole in my dB killer. I did just that, and got the sound I wanted, with a nice power increase. Try the dB killer, before you give it up. |

Did the 1/4" hole really give you that much power or did it just sound fast? Some people believe noise=power, which is not always true. When I was a kid I had a 1973 Honda SL125 that I put a Hooker Exhaust on. It was so loud you could hear it for miles. It seemed faster to me but I'll bet there really was not much difference. Back then, I really didn't care what the neighbors thought either. I've outgrown the appreciation for loud pipes these days. |

Straight pipes or "Drag pipes" on a bike are a fine example of noise does NOT equate into power. Been there done that. Not to say the Drummer or any other Buell exhaust does that, just sayin though. Also having worked for Kerker for a few years I saw the effects of noise VS power on the Dyno. Like a few I see...guess Im getting old and the noise dosent do much for me anymore. Honestly, it's hard to tell with the 1/4 hole in the dB killer. It just has a 'good' sound now. I to think it pulled better throughout the entire range WITHOUT the dB killer, it was just too loud for me. I'm happy with the sound now. Stock was too quiet for my tastes. |

Even the stock pipe on my 06 seems excessively loud. It seems louder than the Akropovic on my friend's F800GS. |

I always maintain that aftermarket pipes make you cut way back on the throttle usage due to common sense about noise and not wanting to attract the cops. Hence - you always get more power from a stock exhaust .... well, unless you are 16 |

The thing about "V" engines is the torque and that great sound and with a good can you CAN have both as well as save weight and have no rust. And no one is going to tell me they would run a Dodge Challenger 425 Hemi, a 65 Shelby Mustang, Indian Chief or other that sounded like a Prius. Which the 2010 EU Uly most deffo does. |

This am I made the swap back to stock on the ECM and muff. Wow... the torque gains are really evident, pulls to redline like never before and I can hear myself think. Another happy camper |

"Which the 2010 EU Uly most deffo does." I put a Stealth can on this bike and it sounds better but makes no more power. No flat spots or lean running but a touch better on "pick up". No rust either as its SS. The HD race ECM was made to match there alloy race can and not the Drummer. Its just my opinion but I think the pre 08 bikes run on the lean side. The DDFI-2 system also seems a bit basic, dare I say crude, as regards the fuel map and speed of control. DDFI-3 its a lot better and MUCH faster. It adjusted well for the Stealth can and the AFV numbers are in the "right range" over a logged run. This and "old school" testing, like "soot on the pipe", and seat of the pants testing has led me to think all is fine. So much so that I feel no need to change the fuel maps. I prefer this way of doing it as Dynos can give a false setup for the road. Just me though. One thing is for sure? You can not just "slap-on" a can and hope for the best. It may work but how well is another matter. It is NOT a "plug-an-play" thing no matter what anyone would lead you to think. |

I built a custom can with a removal end cap and tried pretty much every trick on the internet to see what I could accomplish. I have a pretty good muffler now with a touch more sound (not obnoxious) absolutely runs better through the mid and top with only the very slightest loss at the very bottom. I have learned that Erik got it very very close with the stocker but with the Race ECM I think I bested him slightly. That and the sound is just terrific. With that being said after about 2 years with the modded can I am thinking about slapping the stocker back for a while to see what its like. The moral of the story is I just can't leave well enough alone. Maybe I should take up stacking greasy bb's.... PS. I have re-used the muffler clamps 6 or 7 times with zero failures. Closely following the torque spec's and tightening pattern. (Message edited by rwcfrank on March 19, 2013) |

Way back when, I recall starting a thread titled "Who else likes their Uly quiet?" In my "old age" I find I like noise (yes, sometimes even a well-tuned M/C engine) a bit less. Been very happy that I kept the stock muffler on my '06 Uly (and '10 Multistrada). Not criticizing anyone else; just my choice. --Doc |

Doc, I don't disagree, all I read in my AMA magazine is the negative impact noisy bikes have on the sport. I know my dirt bike is whisper quiet and I prefer that. Maybe that's what causing me to want to go back to stock. |

I don't even do it for the sport. Well...not entirely. Fags with loud drag pipes (south park reference, not a homophobe lol) piss me off and give all of us a bad name. My main reason for quieting down though...I got tired of my ears ringing after a long ride, even with earplugs. My hooligans (S1W and M2) have race cans on them...but i keep them properly packed (mellow) and they're not long-distance rides for me and neither one spends a lot of time at a steady rpm The S2, CR, and especially the Uly are bone stock exhausts. I pulled the supertrapp off the S2 and the drummer off the Uly and couldn't be happier with either one. Performance and noise...they're damned good all stock. |
