My clutch cable just snapped by the hand lever about a half hour ago. Bike was surprisingly easy to limp home with no clutch. Anyway, I was looking forward to a leaving on Saturday morning (36 hours from now) on a one week road trip over spring break to Albuquerque, NM and back from Edinburg, TX. No parts available here in south Texas. Any repair ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. | ||

Sorry to say but your screwed? You could try re-fitting (soldering) the end back on but even if you can you will need a new cable. The way to do this is to back off the adjuster to max, heat the end lug to remove to old cable part, de-grease to cable end, insert and splay out the cable and then solder in place. Adjust the cable. You may loose a day but I would call Al at American Sport Bike and get a http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17096.html and see if you can get it sent next day Saturday delivery. Don't want to spend as much loose 2 days get it on Monday. | ||

I think I will pay for next day sat delivery ... I pre-paid for a $185 cabin in Texas hill country for Saturday PM. Will tell my travel buds to take off without me. | ||

Would a Sportster cable work? Hopefully you could find one in stock at your local Harley dealer. It would likely be too long, but you could probably route the cable to take care of that, at least as a temp fix. | ||

that will work fine for the upper part just find the right cable i'm sure a bicycle shop has one of the brake cable and you just need to change the cable for the bike one and cut to the measure and then add that piece, sure it's not a life time repair but it will hold up for the whole holiday | ||

How ever you get it fixed the farrell at the handle bar lever needs to be oiled once in a while. Mine broke at 7,000 miles, dry as a bone. Rather than turning in the hole it was stuck, bending the cable with every pull. | ||

I modified a sportster cable had to take a hacksaw to the end and hack out about 1" out of the middle. Should last until my real cable arrives at a hotel on Monday. | ||

Well, I just got back from a 3100 mile trip with the modified clutch cable. Had the new one mailed to me in-route, but thankfully I didn't need to replace it on the road. By the way, the last leg of the trip was 920 miles in one day from Ruidoso, NM to Edinburg,TX (took the scenic route). My '07 Uly has over 55K miles on it now and it performed flawlessly throughout the trip. | ||

My first cable lasted around 35,000 miles. Scotty, for the money it might not be a bad investment. Certainly wouldn't break the bank. | ||

Form Home Depot I got a 3/8" bolt with a shoulder ( no thread part ) and cut off a 1/2" length. I got a set screw and a tap/drill pack. I you own a hacksaw and a cordless drill you too can make this Depot approved repair.   | ||
