Anybody know why my HID low beam would start its normal bright white, then slowly, but obviously, morph into something resembling lavender? Takes about ten seconds to notice the change begin to happen. Is it failing? The reflector is fine, btw... |

Sounds like a voltage drop. Dying ballast? Loose connector? Bad ground? |

Could be the ballast..once it heats up, the voltage drops... |

Thx, Rat. I will switch ballasts and see what happens. |

Does starting the bike as soon as the ECM check light goes off shorten ballast life? Thanks |

No the lighting system has nothing AT ALL to do with the ECM. Nor do you need to wait for the ECM light to go out before starting the bike. The ECM "check light" is also, most of the time, a total waste of electric. It only seems to show "full" faults which would not allow the bike to run anyway. Things like sensor problems, the bit you need to know, can only be seen in the ECMs history or via a logged run. All the faults I have had on my bikes have NEVER come up on the ECM check light. Which are - 06 bike wet HT leads and ground problems. 10 bike - O2 sensor, IAT sensor, side stand sensor and grounding faults. A waste of space. And yes your ballast is craping out. Or the input volts to the ballast are going down. (Message edited by Uly_man on March 01, 2013) |
