Dammit. Removed rear wheel for a new tire and my rear bearings feel rough AGAIN. Replaced them about 4 years at with SKF.
Screw it. Just ordered a 2010 rear wheel assembly from Al at American Sport Bike.

Teeps, I did end up buying a inexpensive fish scale for deciding how much preload to use on the new steering head bearings. I'll do what this weekend while waiting for my new rear wheel to arrive. This is getting expensive.

Can anyone tell me what the torque spec is for those bearings? I don't have a uly specific manual ( I know, shame on me, it was auctioned off for a benefit here on badweb). Mines an 09 and just started the clicking at 20k... Hopefully just torque them and be good, but might need new hearings.

Alex, if no one chimes in with the 09 spec I will look up the 07 spec when I get home tonight. I would expect they would be the same

The torque on the steering stem capnut is 38-42 ft-lbs. (52-57 Nm)

The pinch bolt is 23-25 ft-lbs. (31-34 Nm)

Fork clamp lower is 20-22 ft-lbs. (27-30 Nm)

Fork clamp upper is 23-25 ft -lbs. (31-34 Nm)

They recommend red loctite on all clamping screws but I would use blue.

I tightened my tapered steering head bearings by feel. I was too timid and had to re-torque after about a week (you just have to loosen the lower bolts on the triple tree - that was counter intuitive to me).

The second time I gave it quite a bit of elbow grease and have had no additional problems. The tapered bearings can take quite a bit of axial load, so I'm not too worried about over-torque.

I thought Prior was looking for the stock torques, as Tootal provided.
If you used the tapered ones, like I did, I ended up at only 7-10 ft-lbf for the capnut.
I am trusting the pinch bolt to keep it in place, and I marked a line on the cap nut to notice if it ever loosens.
I may re-torque it soon to see if it has "worn in" as someone else mentioned they did with the tapered replacements.

I'll try retorquing them tonight and see where that gets me. I also ordered a set of the All Balls bearings too, thanks for the comment on torque for those.

Remember to loosen the lower clamp bolts on the triple trees along with the pinch bolt. Break the Cap nut loose and then retorque to spec. Retorque the clamp bolts and pinch bolt.

Thank you for that Tootal. I forgot???

Anyway my steering was still a little on the light side from what it was, before the rubber change, and got the odd tiny click as well. Its stiffer now but not tried it on the road yet.

The bottom tree came up about 1mm. Only takes 10 min to do. Soooo easy to work on.
