I'm headed to Vegas for a - ahem - bachelor party in April. Seems like a great excuse to go out early and rent a bike for a couple days.

Where should I go for two days and two nights around the area? Hoover Dam, sure, but what else?

Utah's Scenic Highway 12 isn't too far if you are going to do any extended touring/sight-seeing.

I hear there's some nice road running 'round Lake Mead.

I have been through northern AZ a few times in April. High desert up there is still really chilly, and can be very windy. Maybe staying nearer LV would be a wiser bet.

Need to rent a 650 or smaller dual sport. Then; mint 400 course is a 100 mile lap. Look at the race track near area II Nellis air base. Ride the dry lake bed. Bolder beach. Fire roads up in the mountains. Ride around sunrise mountain. Head towards area 51. You can outrun their patrols (the camo dudes), I did. Find a silver mine. You could off road a different place every day for a year. Did I say sand dunes?

The only place I rode in Vegas was the speedway.

I preferred the outfield track to the main track...more turns : )

Death Valley is a beautiful ride and great time of year. From Vegas, go thru Tecopa, Shoshone, Death Valley, Beatty and back to Vegas.

I'm in Vegas in a couple weeks for a trade show. Gonna throw my Uly in the back of the truck and ride Death Valley for a couple days.

visit the H-D dealer - they had a nice non-Harley bike display

a decade ago, they were [still are?] a Buell & Ducati dealer as well

Great suggestions, folks. Thank you...

I imagine I'll be renting either a Honda ST1300 or a BMW GS1200, two bikes I've been wanting to test. Every day that goes by make me more sure of doing this short trip.

I was in Vegas a couple years ago. I connected with a place called "Adventure Moto Tours" I met a great guy named Rick about 15 miles south of Vegas, he had a trailer with bikes gear, etc. I think we ended up in California but we rode in the Desert and mountains all day. washouts, sand, all kinds of terrain. I am from the midwest and always thought a desert was just sand but it was beautiful out there. We rode up a mountain trail to an abandoned mine and had lunch there then through a Joshua tree forest.

He was a lot more experienced than I was, I went down more that I want to remember, and I couldn't walk right for almost two days, but it was a fantastic day.

Thanks Rfp52...that must have been amazing.

Though, if a stranger read your last sentence and didn't know we were talking about motorcycling...

I was in Vegas this weekend. Of course my body was on Minnesota time, so I was up at 5am.

It was 37 degrees outside, but the sun was so intense, that it felt like it was 20 degrees warmer. It was perfect riding weather. And at that time, LV Blvd was near empty. What a beautiful time to cruise the strip and actually see something without worrying about every jackhole on the planet.

Some bikers had the right idea as I saw a few coming up out of parking ramps to take advantage of all of the above!

I would have loved to have had gear along, just for that morning ride.

Did you get outside the city at all? I'm hoping to explore the countryside around LV as much as possible, since I doubt I'll be back there on two wheels again.
