Advoutlander, In my other post I said, "I have an '07 and its been great,". I will add that the Uly's seem to have a lot of issues and need lots of attention. Some will say no more than other brands--I don't know.? I don't know your motorcycle background, but, if you can do your own maintenance be prepared to use those skills. |

It sounds like you are just hanging out on the board and reading about the issues others are having. The problem is, people don't generally post about riding to work with nothing happening, so for the most of what you will hear is when others are looking for assistance. The situation is the same on any vehicle message board, I see the same thing on Camaro5.com, Priuschat, etc. |

Anyone that drives one is dissing themselves. I had one as a company car, awful is an understatement, but I've mentioned that in previous postings. |

Advoutlander I bought an '08 with no baggage last summer w 7500 miles on it for $4k. All it needed was a race ecm and a front tire. I think they're mostly going for more and that I got extremely lucky. |

Froggy, Don't get me wrong, I really like my Uly. I try to do most of my own maint. (currently needs rocker box gaskets). Things like this could be expensive, if you didn't work on your own bike. You're right that reading about other peoples problems does effect my opinion of their reliability |

I have put 18k of the 30k on my 09 Uly since 2010 with no problems except a flat tire and a popped belt. Popped the belt chasing prairie dogs in a field. Got the flat in my garage - my bust again. It's my daily rider and has been totally reliable so far. knock-knock-knock. YMMV Zack |

For what it's worth, the '06 sounds bit beat up unless the price is at their low limit at least. the '08 sounds safer, especially if there is any flex on that price. I would not recommend a Buell for anyone unless they enjoy doing much of their own maintenance and any repair work. It's not that they are a mess or unreliable, it's just that they are a bit less refined than a high volume bike that had 10 times as many people working on its development. Because of that same thing, though, the bike feels much more "alive" to many of us, and most Buell owners are the type that enjoy a bike with "personality". My '06 is not flawless, but has had no major issues outside of clutch plates getting toasted, which I eventually fixed myself. They are some of the more simple bikes to work on if you are mechanically inclined at all and have basic hand tools. I'd be afraid to take on some of the newer bikes for anything other than basic maintenance. |
