I have a Spec Ops muffler ( not installed yet ) Can this be run with stock ECM without any problems or do you need to go to something such as EBR race ecm ? I also have K&N air filter

|I have a spec-ops too... been running on my 06 uly for a few years, my only change is a 07 airbox. Did a TPC rest is all. Runs good... I only have some backfire on decel. I was thinking of inserting some type of baffle to be easier on the neighbors... maybe in spring. I like the loudness in traffic, it helps cagers know your behind them so they don't swerve/lanechange as much.

Thanks I have an 07 Uly with K&N filter. I figured would need to do reset when I installed, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause a problem running with stock ECM.

Running an aftermarket exhaust with the stock programming is only asking for trouble in the long run. Especially in Xdigitalx's case he also is not running the original intake.

Can you run it with the stock program? Yes. Should you? No, there is no legitimate reason not to, unless you don't care about your bike.

Also, TPS reset is not needed when changing the muffler, only the ECM. Resetting the TPS for changing the muffler gains you just as much as changing a non burned out headlight.

Froggy, I put a 55 watt bulb in place of the 35 watt bulb on the high beam side....
But, you are correct in that a TPS reset is not needed.

Stoney, A map tuned to your set up will wake the bike up with out chancing a lean condition. Extra heat is bad. Me? I'm a fan of the EBR RACE ONLY ECM. That route will require a TPS reset.

Thanks Ourdee. I was leaning towards the EBR race ECM myself, but was curious if was really needed. I could see it running to lean without different fuel mapping if not used. So Off to EBR website I go .
Thanks all

Ourdee, the stock bulbs are 55w, so unless you went with HIDs or a different color bulb you again did nothing.: )

Froggy, It must be all that HID/Halogen talk that had me thinking the OEMs were 35 watt bulbs. How else could I justify buying $10 bulbs at the Dealer for $25? Now I'm mad at myself. I did put a short life +or- 5% brighter bulb in it's place. I think I'll go out back and light a couple of $20s on fire.

Are you sure they weren't 35 watts?

Yep, this is one of those things don't even need to look up, but check your manuals if you don't believe : )

Just keep the bulb in there, when it does die just put another cheapo H7 in there.

getting back to the topic of this post (please), xdig mentioned he had backfire on decel, isnt that an indication of richness? so no worry about leanness and overheating?
i ask cause i have stock
(HDI) muffler with ebr ecm, sposedly programmed for stock muffler, and i get backfire on decel. so what, i like it. and as for power range below 3k, crap, i cant run below 2k without spitting etc, so guess my advantage is kinda limited. if you want to talk about the range between 5 and 7k, im impressed, my uly can still scare the pants off me.

Gringo-

My experience with the same setup(stock muffler, EBR ECM) was much the same. Popping on decel, kinda weak below 4k rpm, a beast above that.

Gringo, the stock exhaust programming is for the US stock muffler and header, your HDI bike has a different muffler and header, so I doubt it is tweaked to match your setup.

Wow.. thats the first I've read about using a specops or drummer and/or 07 airbox for an 06, without the upgraded ecm as being abusive to the bike. I also have a crankcase reroute installed.

Gringo - a popping noise on decel (quick closing of the throttle) is often described as "backfiring", and is usually a lean condition.
Most commonly due to "high performance" mods without adjusting fuelling (Harleys with open or nearly open "drag" pipes), or sometimes an air leak (though they usually present at other conditions, like erratic idle).

At least that is my experience.
