Aprilia RSV-R (10,000 UKP) stolen and the UK Law was not interested. 5,000 UKP 06 Uly stolen and the UK Law closed the case in three days. And both times I lost 35% on each one on the insurance claims. Total 4,000 UKP.

I now have so many locks, security devices and covers on my bike it takes me 10 mins to sort them and sometimes, with putting on the kit, weather and the like can not be bothered to ride it because I am now paranoid about letting it out of my sight.

Oh and now the best bit? New job (Friday), high security site, gated complex, at least ten security cameras and the bike not visible from the road. I am on site for less than four hours and the try to steal it. Security chase them away. They try again and the police are called. The police do nothing and I do not find out about this until the following day. I chain up the bike to a very large concrete object.

And the SUPER best bit? Today they try AGAIN but I have chained up the bike so they steal some other guys 2009 R1.

And what did the police do. Well one thing was they did not answer the call for 5 mins which may not have helped much. But God forbid you drop a crisp (fry) on the sidewalk and they will fine you big time and you will get a criminal record to go with it.
I think I WOULD enjoy the Mayan art of "pealing skin" but in my case I would use a VERY blunt axe to a music track from One Direction. Cruel but justified. I would also do many other things that I may regret and but just have to live with.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. I hate thieves! I would be right behind you making sure the thieves wouldn't do it again.

Well living in Illinois is almost as bad as the UK. We can own guns but can't carry them. The only state in the union that is still run by Nazi's!! The UK is even worse and it's really sad. My only saving grace is that if somebody tries to take anything out of my garage I have the right to send them to their maker! You only have the right to use a baseball bat! Wait, a Cricket bat!!

UK has a huge problem with Travelers (Gypsies) who roam around and steal everything in site and live above the law without any recourse in general. The cops are usually afraid of them. They were trying to steal my Weld Wheels from my F350 which I park near Gatwick, was like a game for them, they just wanted to melt them down for the aluminum. Cost 800 bucks each, and they wanted them for scrap...

When I lived in Florida we had auto theft problems in our neighborhood and all of the surrounding communities.

The guys in the body shop where I worked, and myself, usually had older vehicles to drive to work. These did not have security systems or alarms, so they were easy targets. We decided to make something that would get the attention of a thief that would more than just annoy them. We had to park on a dead end back street on the outside of the dealership fence. There was a security camera pointed that direction.

The little trick we did was to take a 12 gage wire, rig it to the coil or a spark plug wire. We wrapped the other end in the seat springs of the driver seat, most were worn enough to have some exposure to some part of a sweaty body.

One day we were heading out for lunch and one of my buddy's Toyota pickup was out of line from where it was parked, with the door open and engine running. The dealership let us view the security tape in a meeting later that day.

The dumb thief was "shocked" for sure as he dove out of the truck, hit his head, fell to the ground and it ran over his foot. He got up and ran away at a full limp. After laughing our butts off for a while, we were told we had to remove the devices because the thief could come back and sue us for "baiting" and "booby trapping" an innocent person. We argued, to no avail, that innocent people do not steal vehicles.

The best way I found to avoid high theft situations was to move about 700 miles away.

Marc- Sorry about your troubles. Since the site is "high security" maybe you should report the attempted theft to management. I assume they have a very good reason for trying to make the place secure; if common thieves can get in to steal motorcycles how easy would it be for a professional to break in? If the security is defense department related or something similar, maybe a phone call to an appropriate external agency (who's your equivalent of the FBI?) would motivate someone in your organization to take the site's security seriously. It's crazy that your motorcycle isn't safe in a place like that.

It was back in the days of VHS that taped 12 hours and started over. No chance of that being available.

What was really funny was to hop into someone's car or truck and head for lunch. If you knew where it was, and could reach the switch, you could light up everyone in the vehicle.

I did it to the guy with the little Toyota truck.....the spark was going "snap - snap" to the middle of his back.....he would jump every snap. As we were laughing at him he got me back by grabbing my arm and revving the crap out of that engine! It actually made my hair stand up! We had a tingling sensation all during lunch. I walked the three blocks back to the shop.....it was a safer thing to do.

Heck of it was, a month later you would forget.....

I read this entre thread about a reformed motorcycle thief and found it fascinating. I learned a lot about motorcycle security.

"who's your equivalent of the FBI?".

He is called BOB. He works out of a small office, in Westminster, three floors below ground with a table that has two busted legs, screws his "Number Two" on a Tuesday, a telephone that only works on a Sunday between 10 and 11am and thinks that peoples democratic rights have about as much value as Stalin did. He would like/wants to "chip your head", thinks "1984" should be re-printed on Gold Leaf and has had "Brazil" downloaded into his brain because it "turns Him on".

Anything similar to JEH must just be in passing.

Electrify the seat. At least a little vengeful satisfaction would be paid when they fire it up at some point.

My Nephew stayed with us a few years back and his nearly new YZ250 race bike was stolen from my driveway as he had set it up for sale. We were there, we saw the theft happen. My drive is over 500 feet long. An old red Ford pickup pulled the wrong way across the divided highway stopping beside the bike. Two guys got out and tossed the bike over the side into the back taking off the wrong way and disappearing down the road. It took them less than a minute.

By the time three of us got in our cars to take chase, they were gone. Back roads start a half mile out and go everywhere here.

The sheriff's department was of no immediate help, but they did help later. It seems the thief was a noted drug dealer and he was using it for months delivering product from his hiding place in the mountains to drop spots. They knew of the bike for a year but could not catch him. Finally with the bike really ragged out, he wrecked while being chased on a dirt road.

He went to jail for a couple of months, but no restitution will ever be paid for the bike because he has so many charges against him, this one is minor. We got the bike back but it was killed, beaten and neglected to the point my nephew had his brother sell it for scrap parts because he could not even look at it.

doesnt help either when your senators try to board an airplane with a pistol in handbag.
what a friggin moron.

all the locks in the world cant stop a determined thief especially for a bike, shoot a few of them and word will get around.
