ALRIGHTY!!! got the 09 xt in today and i will have to say i didn't get a long ride but i did ride,.... im loving the bike but here comes the list of things i wanna change in no particular order,.... also an initial ride report i guess! bike is bone stock with 819 miles on it #1 shorter windshield.. just not diggin the tall one and it causes my shark helmet to buffet pretty good when its in the open face configuration #2 too quiet for me, although i don't want it to be obnoxiously loud #3 needs better throttle response...it was kinda temperamental when i first rode it (coughing and stalling) but it seemed to smooth out after time and new fuel #4 is there a shorter seat for an 09 xt? im still kinda tip toeing it. #5 i want a tune but don't know the way to go,... if i make future changes i need a tune that can be tweaked with my future plans. #6 is there any taller handle bar options? #7 who designed these keys? that thing cuts my leg to pieces in my pocket! #8 i want a better set of hand guards, these are strictly bug deflectors and keep popping them off on accident #9 also want some better levers too #10 more ride time lastly what are the recommended mods? the important ones i need to focus on? thanks a ton folks |

hand guards = barkbusters Better Levers = go for the cheap chinese ones that are like Pazzo or CRG a fraction of the price and seem to be quite as good you will find on ebay. For taller handle bar the best option is either 1" risers or the forgot the name some one will come up with the name of the other risers. not sure about what seat you have but there is a tread about the seats. Post in the classified section and i'm sure more than one will be interested in trading the short for the tall wind screen |

ROX Risers 3R-P2SSM is the part number you need that works with Buell, allows you to move the bars up and back around 2 inches. You have the lowest seat unless the prior owner put the tall seat on it. You can get a lowering collar for the rear shock which drops the ass end about 1". I have a 28-29 inch inseam and you learn to adjust. I feel pretty solid on it. Took awhile after getting off the Softail. Do TPS reset on your bike then ride, it will learn your riding style after a period of time. |

#1 -- If you like to ride with your visor up, maybe the MadStad or Palmer bracket and tall screen would be in order. #2 -- Give it some time. The stock sound of it might grow on you. If it doesn't, don't hack the stock muffler up! You may want to go back to stock for whatever reason (i.e.: selling, touring, or you want to be on speaking terms with your neighbours :-). Stock Uly mufflers are *very* difficult to source. You could try keeping the interactive valve open by various means (do a search; there are temporary, non-intrusive ways of doing this) to see how you like it a bit louder. #4 -- If you end up installing a lowering ring, that's a great time to install the comfort kit. #8 -- What Afsoc said. Get the mounting kit with the wind guards of your choice (I like the Storms, but I'm a bit north of you). During the hottest part of the riding season, the wind guards are easily removed, leaving the aluminum backbone for basic hand/lever protection: BB.S4.BK Barkbusters Storm handguard with full-wrap aluminum backbone (mounting kit sold separately), black BB.BSC.STD Barkbusters mounting kit for 7/8 (22mm) non-tapered, hollow- tube handlebars (Message edited by dtaylor on September 10, 2012) |

I hated the tall windscreen also. All it did was move the buffeting from a place I don't mind (torso) to a place I do mind (head). For throttle response, my stock 07 will cough once or twice warming up, but then is fueled pretty well (I assume it is stock, but who knows what previous owners did). For bark busters, I am happy with these: http://www.amazon.com/Motocross-Enduro-Aluminum-In side-KDX220R/dp/B004BOXKN0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid= 1347279411&sr=8-3&keywords=barkbusters I think that is the set I got. They mounted up fine to my Uly with stock Bars, Alex has a set and he was having a little more trouble fitting them. They will only go to one rotation position, they won't be adjustable up or down, but the position they go to is one that works well for me. Worth the upgrade (IMHO). I bought them just to protect levers in the event of a low side, but have since seen a video of a super motard clobbering a deer, and in that video it was pretty clear the bars protected the rider from what could have been a significant injury. I also like the idea that if a wheel cover or something else comes careening towards me, I know the safest place for my hands is on the bars where I can keep controlling the bike (presumably putting the rest of my body to a safe place as well). |

First up, put a new set of spark plugs in it. Do not be a throttle blipper ala HD riders at stop lights. On cold starts do not touch the throttle, crank it up let it idle for at least three minutes. Run that thing above 3500 RPM most of the time, They get good in the twisties at 4000 or so. There is an '06 LOW seat that is a couple of inches lower than the other seats. It has a gel pad and IMHO is not as comfy as most of the other seats because lowering it that much makes it wider in the crotch splitting area. Ride it some before your mods because some things (like the tall windshield) work well in your mind, but not so good on the bike. Loud pipes are not fun on long trips. The tail pipes are under you, not behind you like on a cruiser. Having said that, I did make mine a little louder by adding a tail pipe to the right side rear chamber. |

The 06 Low Seat is wider at the neck, thus defeating the purpose of a lower seat. YRMV |

Put a few thousand miles on the Uly before "tuning" it. Get used to the way that the bike likes to be ridden. |

#1 shorter windshield... yup. need short shield or tall one with MadStad or Palmer brackets. #2 too quiet for me... yup. Drummer SS FTW. #3 needs better throttle response... kind of the nature of the beast. You should have no stumbling tho if it is in good repair and you avoid blipping the throttle. #4 is there a shorter seat for an 09 xt? yup, there are 2 seat heights. #5 i want a tune but don't know the way to go... EBR ECM- ebracing.com They will reflash it for you for a nominal fee once you get future mods. #6 is there any taller handle bar options? good lord, why would you want that, they are ridiculously tall as it is! #7 who designed these keys? HD... #8 i want a better set of hand guards... I don't mess with mine, and they don't pop off. Can't help you here. #9 also want some better levers... pick up a set of CRGs- WELL worth the money. Cheap is....well, cheap. #10 more ride time... that's on you! |

40K Miles on my 08XT: - The EBR ECM was the best investment. Get rid of the stock mount and make a foam bed for it to rest in. Eliminates the ECM connector problem you will have. - I found that the lower X shield worked best for me. It moved the air to my chest and all but eliminated helmet buffing. - NGK Iridiums are the way to go. They made a noticeable difference. While you are in there. Scrap the stock plug wires and add a set of 8.5 MM Magnecore. They make custom kits for the ULY. - I actually installed much lower pro taper school boy bars. I like the more aggressive sport touring posture when riding. - Check your belt tightness. Mine was way to tight. I modified the upper pulley bolt hole to relieve the belt tension. There is a posting on the process out there. Other may disagree, but it was a noticeable change. - Perform the duel light mod. Makes a big difference. While your at it, install an HID on the low beam side. Makes a huge difference. - 2010 Wheel. Get it as a Christmas present to yourself. Don't worry about bearing issues after that. - I prefer the stock muffler since this is my long distance bike. I played with locking the exhaust valve open but found a significant reduction in low/Med end torque. Does sound better though. I have my 1125R with a Barker if I'am feeling saucy. It is a great bike. Easy to maintain and a blast to ride. I would not trade mine. Have a great time ridding yours. |

awesome awesome help fellas,.... so the stock sound is growing, i may try this valve mod, does the ebr ecm do away with the valve? i like the looks of those bark busters! lookin like a next mod. the dealer i bought it from serviced it and put new plugs in it before delivery so that ought to be good. comfort kit may be a good idea! headlights do suck hind teat... gotta research this. i am learnin to peg leg it and it aint so bad i do this on my glide but i can flat foot it without moving my tail in the seat everything about this bike is growing on me.... im diggin this!!!! |

Mark Weiss is right. You don't have the miles on the motor yet to tune it... it's running kinda OK enough to finish the break in. I need me a Uly. |

The EBR race ECN for the stock pipe does operate exhaust valve. I forgot about the comfort kit. Well worth the bucks. It did take 5K miles before the engine loosened up and really felt right. |

Nobuell, everyone seems to relocate their ECM with a rigid mount but you say that you just pack it in foam? That sounds easy, do you keep it in the same location or tuck it up closer to the battery? |

Griff I removed the stock bracket and tuck it below the original location. There is plenty of space and the wires do not need relocating. I have had it that way for at least 10K miles. I make a little pocket of 1/4" thick Silicone sponge. I have drops from my company. Any soft foam will work. |
