I did some quick searches & found lots & lots of posts on replacing & adjusting the clutch cable & also how to help with water ingress, but I did not see anything on getting a new OEM or after market clutch boot. I just discovered that mine is toast. I don't know how many times I've been rained on in it's current condition, but I'm gonna change the primary fluid and figure out something to do about the boot. Does anybody know where I can find something that will fit? Thanks | ||

Hmmm, I guess that will be an issue for all of us eventually. I've never signed on to the theory that significant moisture gets into the transmission that way, but it is probably a good idea to have some protection on it. Why not just wrap it with electrical tape until you can find a replacement? | ||

Thanks a lot Teeps. I appreciate the link as well. I have a question into the seller to see if we can find out some basic dimensions but I'll probably order a couple regardless. I asked Al as well (A.S.B.) and he said that HD doesn't source this part separately. He did tell me that both Kuryakyn and Drag have a dress up part that would do the job but it is a little ... gaudy.  I like my shiny bits but if I can find a simple boot that will fit I think I'll go that route 1st. Until then I have my trusty roll of silicone self fusing tape. | ||

Heard back from the seller on Teeps link. The boot is in fact for an Ironhorse (brand) motorcycle clutch cable but should fit "all custom and big twin clutch cables" as far as the cable diameter is concerned. The boot itself is 6" long which should more than cover what we care about. I went ahead and ordered a few just in case. Thanks again Teeps. | ||

Its more the rain that is the problem. It enters the boot at the top but takes a while to run out the bottom. While doing that it can seep into the adjuster and into the cable sheath. I do not think many will get water in the tranny oil but I do know for a fact, because I found it on the 06 bike, water will get in the boot and rust up the adjuster. Anyway for a "nothing cost" mod why no anyway. | ||

FWIW fellow badwebber (Xbimmer) suggested using a boot from a Honda dirt bike up at the lever. It's a simple mod and I've been happy with the decrease in crud. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/369034.html | ||

It is just a standard clutch cable boot. Any HD or after market shop should have them in stock. The part number is the same for every big twin, sportster, and buell model. I think it has been the same part since they went with the newer style transmission/ clutch in 1984. |
