Since you've had oil pump failure, I recommend getting the 08 crank, which would require you to get an 08 XB9 primary and chain while your at it. I've done this to my knocking '07. |

I did read on this site about the 08 crank. It will only work w/ the 08 XBR primary set up? I was considering it, but I know it is even more $. I`m riding my good `ol FXR to NH for a few days, so I have time to think about this whole mess. |

Motor, you can use an XB12X primary, but if you go to the 08 crank, you need an 08 primary which ever you chose. |

Thanks Rd. I have to read up on everything and decide. I think I read about `06 Ulys running over 100k, so if my crank is welded and trued will it be good to go? Roll of the dice? Continued thanks for all the input folks. Side note: I just got back from Laconia, NH on my `85 FXR. She`s got over 94k on her so it was a little scary. She ran great, buuuuuuut, the speedo cable broke, and the Accel petcock started to leak!! I got real lucky and found a stock one at a small independent shop for 20 bucks!! It worked great, and the weather was absolutely perfect!! (rare) So, at least I got to ride something on the great New England roads, in perfect weather for a few days. It`s all good. Sorry for the long side note. |

I think I read about `06 Ulys running over 100k I think I've read about far more that haven't. I'm not sure those odds are in your favor. In all seriousness, if you love the bike and hope to have it for another 80K miles, you might want to consider the the crank since you already have everything apart. It is proactive maintenance to the extreme, but you'll have a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing the lower end is rock solid. If it were my bike, I would fix what needed fixing and sell it. I could never find it in my heart to forgive the bike for such a catastrophic failure at 17K miles. That machine would be outside the circle of trust for good. If you insist on a Uly, then sell that one and go and buy an '08. That is the cheapest and surest way to get the upgrades. Might even find one with a comfort kit and 2010 wheel already in place. |

After thinking about it, I`m think I am going to go w/ the `08 crank. My mechanic is getting it from Dark Horse. I thought about having them trying to true the `06 crank, and using it, but there is a chance it is not repairable, and it`s still an `06 crank. If I go with the `08 it should be a rock solid bottom end like Buewulf stated. I don`t just want to do a quick repair and sell it to some one, as I just don`t think that is right. It`s going to cost me a lot of money, and it really is not worth it, but I don`t have time to sell it for parts. Because of family priorities, I don`t ride as much as I used to, and need a reliable bike. I lost a lot of faith in this, and I`m so mad I can`t even explain it. I can`t see me owning it forever, but after it`s repaired, I will ride it for a while, don`t know how long. I`m sorry for the ramble, just have to vent. Thanks for the input. |

Motor, I'm in the same boat as you. I couldn't sell it with a bad crank, so I bit the bullet and put in the money. So far it's been ok, with just a few issues most likely caused by myself. I've been riding it a bit and still enjoy riding this bike, the popping out of 5th is tiresome though. Still, I learned alot and for the most, happy with it. Good luck. |

Thanks Rd, I hope it all goes well, and your right Tootal, it was great to get out for a few days, and yes, I had a few ales! |

I don`t just want to do a quick repair and sell it to some one Whoa, guys! I am certainly not implying that you should't fix it right before you sold it. If it were my bike, it would get '07 parts put back in it, but I would want it fixed properly before I sold it. I'd HAVE to sell it once it was fixed due to hostile feelings, but that is just me. If after that I still felt like only a Uly will do, then I would shop for an '08+ bike and get all of the other '08 goodies that come with it in addition to the crank. |

You don't need that much in parts and '08 parts will cost almost as much as '07 parts. Why not upgrade it? It's a good selling point to the potential buyer as well since he doesn't need to worry about the "ticking time bomb" of another crank failure. Even if it never happens, it would still weigh heavily on me if I just reinstalled another questionable '07 crank. |

I was not implying anything, Buewulf, sorry if you thought so. I`m going with the `08 crank. I`m looking at it, as it will be upgraded with a better bottom end, and I already bought the `07 oil pump. I don`t know how long I`m going to keep it. I don`t have to have a Uly. I like it, but can`t put up with things like this. Oh well, just want to fix it and move on. We are ordering the crank from Dark Horse tomorrow. |
