Getting a fairly loud rattle from the clutch at idle. Quiets down completely with the lever pulled in. Noise was there prior to the xb9 gearing conversion, and seems to be getting progressively louder. Time for a new clutch? How difficult would that be? Just FYI, it is an 09 w 43k miles. |

I might look at adjusting your primary chain, then re-adjusting your clutch. If it still makes noise I would suspect your clutch hub bearing or throw out bearing. |

+100 on doing proper, by-the-book clutch and primary adjustments before tossing parts at it. |

Wont be a throw out bearing if it goes away when pulling the clutch, possible chain adjustment or warped pressure plate? |

The needle bearing in my '06 clutch started making noise at about 30K miles. It was somewhat corroded. Requires a bearing press to R&R from the clutch basket. Otherwise no big deal. --Doc |

Forgot to mention, the clutch behaves well otherwise-no creeping in gear, shifts well, no slipping, etc. I DID, however, find a good bit of 'goo' in there at the primary switch. Cable boot had torn and was permitting moisture, I assume. Doc-the bearing press is a separate tool from the clutch tool, I presume? |

Mine rattles too but only when the bike is in gear with the clutch pulled in. It seems to quiet if I let the clutch out so that it just starts to grab. Any ideas? |

Anyone on this? Its still doing it after changing the primary oil and tensioning the chain. Oil was bad, pretty milky, with some normal shavings in the oil. One chunk that was slightly larger, size of pencil lead roughly. Again, it only makes noise when the clutch is pulled in and the bike is in gear at a stop. When the clutch is pulled in at a stop but the bike is in neutral, there's no noise. I'm thinking its the transmission sychros or something. |

OK I finally have useful info then. My 2008 did that. Water go in the primary and killed a bearing. It was the same as you describe. Bearing was the one between the inner and outer clutch. They fixed mine while it was under warranty. Get yours changed before it kills your shaft! |

On mine the smaller inner rivets are loose and all but one of the springs (in the humps) are collapsed. It's been noisy for bit but i wouldn't call it grinding. Just something to look at.

How difficult is it to change that bearing? Any special tools involved? |
