It was my idea and the work of a turner and his lathe with big portion of patience for making for me such "silly and minimalist" parts.
I know there will be the day I come in his workshop with one of my paper-hand-drawings and he will receive me throwing a big hammer to my head. |

He may have put two on. I positioned mine about where the helmet lock is so I can open it up going down the road. On the other hand if your riding exclusively out in the boonies and just want to carry extra fuel I guess it doesn't matter. |

Because it's not intended as a fuel cell connection. I Only want to get the fuel out without messing the bike.
I had the situation in which I needed to drain an almost full tank. The fuel prices in spain don't let me spill a liter over my bike.
P.D.1: The final position/angle of the shut off is not the shown on the picture.
P.D.2: Normally there will be a (not easy accessible) plug on the "open" end of the valve. When it's needed to drain I change the plug with a hose connection.
P.D.3: My THIRD fuel pump is getting noisy (49000 km), so for me it's not a job "one time in life".

My bladder fuel cell setup.
The bladder holds 3 gallons but I only put in 2.5 gallons to allow room for expansion on hot days. And I even stack a soft bag for my jackets on top of the bladder when traveling. The only issue I have is it's a kind of a pain in the butt to refill. |

To add info on the fuel bladder, when its is empty I just roll it up and store it between the beaver tail and the top trunk so it is not in the way if I want to carry a passenger or additional baggage and don't need the additional fuel capacity. |

Mike - how did you attach the cell to the passenger seat. I've been trying to figure out a good way to do that so I can keep my trunk on as well. I have two seats, so I was actually thinking about just screwing a base plate to the seat itself, and then strapping the cell to that plate. Then I'd just use my other seat when I didn't want to run the cell. |

I was incorrect in saying mine was 4.5 gallons.... how do I know this?
I have a 5 gallon gas can that has the gallons marked on the side. It was just above the 4 gallon mark.
Being the super smart dude that I am, I just dumped it into my tourtank.... my garage still has the gas stank this morning.... and another brainful thing I did after cleaning that mess up. I turned the petcock on and let it dump into the Uly's tank... ya see... My low fuel light had been on for over 20 miles. No problem I told myself.. should be able to hold what the tourtank has in it but I'll keep a eye on it.... I got distracted  now my garage REALLY stinks!
But the lines don't leak!! WOOT!! |

Mike - how did you attach the cell to the passenger seat.
I made a fancy bracket at first, but for my big trip I simply used two bungee cords. Way simpler, quick and easy to remove, and easily field repairable if needed.
Obviously not IBA approved or anything like that, but worked perfectly for my needs. |

I just carry a 2 gallon tank on the passenger seat when I ride long distances (and the GF doesn't like long rides). I did a tour of northern california last year with it and had zero problems (wish my bike had the same, fuel pump went out).
If I stray out in the boonies, I just stop and refill with my extra fuel (nice to be able to run it out if needed too). |

I scrapped my project to mount a cell to the back of the seat. I just didn't have the time to work out the logistics properly and test it before the Minnesota 1000 this weekend. I ended up just re-installing my Tourtank on the rear rack as before. It had been two years since I'd used it, but a test yesterday and it worked fine. Bummer, because I really wanted to figure out a way to keep the top box on for distance rallies. I'll revisit in the future... |

In a perfect world, I'd score a spare seat (or at least a seat pan) and build a solo touring seat with the tourtank or fuel cell bolted to the back half. Then a simple key turn pops off my 2-up seat and clicks on my touring seat with the tank permanently affixed. Snap the quick release fuel connector together and roll out. |

That was actually my plan. I have two seats. The original XT seat, and a tall seat. I was concerned that bolting thru the seat wasn't going to be sturdy enough for rally specs. |

I got it from Just Gas Tanks in California but they have stopped selling them due to Calif rules on aux fuel tanks. It works great for what I want but is is kind of a pain to refill I have to take it off to do that. I have the filler cap tapped in the center and that is where I run the fuel line to the drain in the main tank. I use a dry break quick coupler to make my connection to the bikes main fuel tank. |
