as part of my list of winter projects, I removed the fuel pump on the Uly today to check on the "chaffing wires" syndrome. Happy to say, the wires all look good, but for good measure I slipped the wires through some flexible tubing(see pic). This should safeguard the wires from any future problems I hope. Also, check out how loose the old gaskets are! I suspect I better replace both of those before putting the fuel pump back in the tank.   | ||

Your clear tubing is rated for submersion in fuel, right? | ||

Not sure about that rat. this is leftover tubing I used for the gas line on my snowblower. It was on there for yrs and held up fine. I think I got it at the hardware store. I do know not to use the standard black gas line tubing. I've seen the outside rubber material on that stuff get all soft and break down when submerged in gas. But now you have me thinking. Where can you get soft tubing rated for submersion? | ||

Its just not worth the work for a few cents. If this this is "fuel line grade" it should be ok. Also remember you can not use Silicon tube. Good maintenance Uly Dude. Thanks for the info. | ||

Wow, that fuel pump "sock" looks brand new. Is it, or is that the original? | ||

Those o-rings look like Viton. I would replace with the same. Use an o-ring lubricant like Dow Corning 111 or 112. | ||

That is a new fuel pump screen Sharkguy. I thought I had everything I needed to do the rebuild, but alas, I didn't. For those of you thinking about doing this, you'll need; 2 banjo o-rings where the exiting fuel line connects. 2 Fuel pump o-rings 1 fuel intake screen 1 fuel filter American Sport Bike can provide all this stuff BTW. HD only sold me 1 fuel pump o-ring, so now I have to wait for Al to get me one quick. Spring is a comin! |
