The 2010 bike has a nice black frame, engine, cowl, triple trees, pegs etc so why did they leave the back end the old frame colour. One or the other but half and half seems a bit odd.

I managed to buy a complete back end for a good price and have just had it powder coated. They did a good job and it did not cost to much either. I had the gear lever done as well as I had a spare. I want to keep the original parts as they are. With a tail tidy, small LED indicators, small plate and the black seat this should look good.

I have always thought that this part of the bike (without the mudguard) was a little piece of automotive art in its own right. Form and function is very clever and it works as well? In black it has a sort of sc-fi "war of the worlds" feel to it.

Its also "sex on a stick" bike wise.

Post a picture when installed. I think it will look great. Either way, I really like the 2010 in yellow and black

That should look really good. I just bought a black 08 xt and it's pretty scuffed up on the bars that hold the triple tail. I bought some black plasti dip spray to cover it with. It's pretty durable and if I don't like it I can peel it off. Waiting for some warm weather to complete.

Post pics when you're done! Yellow looks awesome.

One thing I forgot to mention. If you refit any of the steel bolts back into the alloy on this bike make sure you clean off 100% all of the thread locking paste and make sure the bolts run in/out smooth before you re-build.

I do not know what this stuff is but it is a nightmare. It tightens, as you fit the bolt and then locks itself so tight you can not get it out again. I managed to shear off a bolt and bust a solid bit as well. And no it was not a crossed thread that caused it or have I had this sort of problem before with locking paste. I seems to be like concrete.

That is really going to look sweet!!!

I ordered some graphite gray from Al at American Sport Bike and painted the rear subframe of my '09XT last year and I really liked the way it turned out.
This year I ordered some more paint from Al (shameless plug) and painted some plastics the same color. It was a 2005 airbox cover (look in the background to see what became of that bike) so I had to drill some holes for air intake.
I'm on the road working right now and I have the Uly with me so when I get back home I'll give it another coat of color and some clear coat.
The black is a lot nicer, though. I wish Buell had been using it all along the way.

P.S. Yellow really is the fastest color but gray is stealth mode.

Very nice graphite paint, Bill. Btw, what mirrors are you using there?

2010 Uly upgrades.

Black powder coated subframe rails and back end. White lens front mini LED indicators (with orange tips) and white lens LED mirror indicators. LED position lamp. 35w HID lights with dip and main beam on together. Fork reflectors removed.

Tail tidy, small plate, white lens mini LED indicators with orange tips and a LED plate light. Cable tie on clutch boot.

Stainless Steel Stealth can with 3 inch outlet (works great with no problems) and black powder coated gear lever.

Piper air filter, FST, breather re-routed into the positive side of air filter, Stebel compact twin air horn, home made clutch lever adjuster, more holes added to the air box and a home made width mod to the rear brake lever. Front and rear pads changed out for better quality units. It may have a Muller type mod on the clutch as its so light you can use one finger.

Buell probably didn't make those grab rails black because they will get mighty hot for a passenger in the summer.

Lookin' great Uly man. I'd like to Know more about the clutch lever adjuster.

Desert bird - Thanks. Those are some eBay el cheapo mirrors. I also have extenders, too. The plastic mirror housings broke where the stems are (were) attached so I just ordered some 1125cr mirrors from American Sport Bike. The LEDs aren't very bright either. They look similar to Uly man's mirrors but hopefully he got better ones than I did.

Billyo. I should have said its an "adjustment" rather than an "adjuster". Its just a scrap piece of Dural bent at right angles and shaped to fit. It splips into the space between the clutch switch and the upstand end makes a spacer for the end of the clutch lever. Paint and glue in place. I did it as an experiment on my 06 bike and since it seemed to work so well I did it again. Cheap and easy if you can be bothered to do it.

The mirrors are the same but they have a straight arm rather than a bent one like yours. At 22.50 GBP I thought they were cheap enough to bin if I did not like them. Quality is better than I thought they would be but not super bright.

I would like to think HD had not painted the hand rail/grips black to protect a pillion/other hands if they got hot. If they had then they should have spent as much time/thought/care over some of the other aspects of the bike as well. Bearings?

Just an update. I got the 1125cr mirrors from Al at American Sport Bike and installed and love them. They're well worth the extra money over the ones I had.
They would have interfered with the handguard mounts if it weren't for the extensions, though.

The yellow looks great with the black trim on those parts. Makes for a great looking Uly!

Just a side note. I discovered, after I painted a lot of my parts Barricade Orange, that the gold color that Buell used on the wheels, engine, tail light housing and such, is a perfect color to hide road grime. With those colors if you ride a long trip in the rain the bike will hardly look dirty.

"The yellow looks great with the black trim on those parts. Makes for a great looking Uly!"

The contrast between the two seems to work well and the tinted screen adds to the effect. The bike has a very "aggressive" look about it now. I mainly like the way the black engine and frame "blend" together to make both look as one piece. It makes for a better overall look to the bike.

I have to agree that looks very good. I like the yellow and black but I wonder how it would look with red plastics?
