So I ordered an Ultimate Addons iPhone Waterproof case and handlebar mount this week. The only place I could find them was from a website in the UK. http://www.buybits.com/product/13781.aspx Well, I found that I could order off of Amazon and skip over the crazy shipping costs and foreign currency exchange as well. So this case that would have cost over $70 was under $45 shipped in 3 days! This thing seems amazing. Check out the videos on the link above. I would not call it waterproof, rather highly water resistant. But you can still run a power cord in, use all buttons, and the screen! I plan on giving it a good test on my sled this winter. We will see how the phone holds up in the cold running trail maps. Then it will hit the Uly next spring. You can bet that this case will also protect the phone in the boat from scuffs and probably be good mounted on the dash of the boat. Good luck to anyone looking for something like this. I think it will be a much better option than the RAM Aqua box I had tried first. |

I have tried running my iphone on the Uly. It doesn't work well. Shaking the iphone is just like a keystroke command. In ipod mode, the iphone will pick a new song when you shake it. The Uly, something of a paint shaker at idle, will keep shuffling your songs when you come to a stop. There may be a way to disable the shake feature. Same is true when I run the TomTom app. bb |

You can turn off the shake to shuffle in IPod mode - just go to settings and then down to the music app. I assume same can be doe for TomTom |

Is anyone concerned with the risk of overheating? I've run the iPhone 3G plugged in (car charger) in the truck in a leather case; with music and GPS running simultaneously it would overheat and shut down the GPS. If I removed the phone from the case, it would usually be okay. Then I figured a way to put it in the airstream of the dash air conditioning vents. Point is. Locked inside a case like that, it would surely overheat. No? Some kind of heat sink through the back in needed. |

I guess I never even thought about the heat portion of it. I was more worried about the cold as this is going on my sled for now and the uly in the spring. The other plan is, the case came with a lanyard, so putting it around your neck etc. The whole idea was keeping it dry as priority #1. I can see putting my phone in it in the boat just to keep the splashing off of it. Phones are too damn expensive if you don't have a contract renewal close buy. I ordered the case either way, and it fits nice, and operates nice. I will be sure to report back as soon as it melts down. I hope not! |
