Well, as the title describes I am wondering of anyone has put a set of HB xplorer side cases on their uly. From what I have read they will fit the Buell and KTM Racks, and Ive seen some pics of them on a KTM; however never on a buell. I am wondering if there is enough clearance to open the lid with with two passenger grab bars on the back. Let me know if anyone has some insight. Thanks | ||

yes they fit right up, just backwards. I liked mine. Nice look and useful, but they broke (sagging) after I overloaded them. Don't go over 30 pounds each. DB | ||

Desert bird, Thanks for the reply, would you happen to have any pictures of the cases on your bike? Additionally the more I research to more I discover how the xplorer cases are not very durable, what is your take? Thanks | ||

They are durable. Just that I overload (as you can see). You can use stock racks, they are well built and they look good. If you overload, check out Micatech.    | ||

DB, Thanks for the pictures, I was debating between these and the Gobi's, I really want a top loading case. I think these will win out in the end. Thanks again. | ||

One thing Sam about the Gobi bags. They are fairly small in size when compared to the stock Journey bags. I was able to pack for a 10 day trip without any problems, but I also packed nothing but shorts, t-shirts, traveler underclothes (check out your local camping supply). Plus I used the space bags to get all the air out of my clothes before putting them into the bags. One one of my drops following a dirt trail over a mountain, one of the Gobi's sustained a pretty nice dent, but didn't crack, and doesn't leak water (you can read about my adventure in the Storm Fronts section under the SW Rally Durango, CO). The Xplorer bags are 30 L bags vs. the Gobi 37 L, which I already consider a bit too small. However, since they aren't as big you won't have the one issue I have with the Gobi bags mounted. That is, the rear foot pegs will fold-up. With the Gobi's mounted, you can't fold the pegs and they are always down. I suspect weight wise, the Xplorer bags might be a better option since you were worried about too much weight, but as I said in another post, I really had my Uly loaded down.   anyhow, good luck on your decision and let us see the bike when you get it all sorted! Rain? what's that you speak of?  We haven't seen that in months (thus all the surrounding fires). But I actually flipped them around later so they wouldn't get wet during one storm while traveling. Wayne | ||

I've got a set on my Uly. Have only really been putting them to use for a few weeks now. So far so good, but they'll see some real acton in a week or two when I hit the road for some play time, fully loaded up. So far I can't really complain at all. I have them mounted to the stock rack from an XP. The problem with the Gobi's is that you cannot open them fully with a topcase on (as I understand.) I have the Junior 45L topcase on mine, and the cases just clear. Loving the setup so far. | ||

The problem with the Gobi's is that you cannot open them fully with a topcase on (as I understand.) Sure you can, see the photo of my bike when I'm camping. This has the top open and in the locked position and I even have the larger H&B top case. What you can't do with the Gobi's is have the rear foot pegs folded, they have to stay in the down position.
