I had the wheel and hub of my folding trailer in the topcase, hit a bump in the road and the case took a nice tumble. Now I'm looking for a new case. The case has some nice roadrash but it didn't open. All I can figure is that I must not have engaged the lock correctly the last time I took it off. There was only 9 lbs in it at the time. |

Been there, done that. I was lucky mine jumped off in the grass! Probably had more than ten pounds in it at the time. Just relocated the rear main reflector. |

I didn't lock the latch of my HB top case and a good thing, since that's when I had my get off and the top case when sliding down the Alcan. I was able to bring it home with me and still use it on my Uly. |

Beware the latch on the Hepco-Becker top cases! I lost my first topcase 3 years ago after having it attached continuously since installation. Didn't know what happened- just that it didn't make the 35 mile commute home one day. Bought another case and this time attached it to the rack with P-clamps as well as the stock latch. Just a couple of weeks ago I found the latch dangling- with the lock cylinder still in the locked position. The latching part of the cylinder failed, allowing the latch to fall down and unlatch. The P-clamps saved the day. I put a tie strap around the latch to hold it in the latched position. It will stay that way, just won't be locked against sticky fingers. |

I forgot to latch my original top case and it fell off as I was leaving my house, got rashed up but still usable. Then I got a larger top case like on an XP and forgot to lock it down and when I got to work it wasn't there. I road back the way I came and found it in the middle of the road where I did a wheelie. Again rashed but not bad enough to replace. I thought I was the only one who did this. |

I'm sorry to hear that others have lost their top cases as well. My lock was in the locked position as I had to unlock it to put it back on the rack when I cleaned it the last time a few weeks ago. I thought I had check that it was engaged after put it back on the rack. Who knows? I like the idea of adding a second method of securing the case. Thank to others on the forum for share their experiences. |
