My 06' air box cover has the Buell American Motorcycles on it and my son's 07' just reads Buell. Personally I think the American Motorcycle logo looks better and that my son's bike looks like something is missing. |

I prefer the larger and textured letters on the 07 |

I would prefer ones that don't start sliding off of my tank cover when they get hot. |

I think I'll put the Pegasus-Erik Buell Racing logo on my '06 somewhere. I like options. |

"I would prefer ones that don't start sliding off of my tank cover when they get hot". Me too. Although it is a 5 minute job with the blow dryer to get it back to almost new condition. The tank bag wreaks havoc on it, especially in the heat (which I have thankfully escaped temporarily). For that reason, I liked the non stickered version. Anyone remember the reason they changed to the sticker? |

As I recall Buell was going for the international market and it was thought the slogan might not play well there. |

There has to be a certain percentage of parts on a product actually produced in America in order to proclaim "Made in America". Buell had to remove the "made in America" logo because they did not meet the minimum standard of parts made in America. |

By the way . . . you'll want to read THIS. We've had this discussion so many times here I have it memorized . . . should we jump straight to the part about Buell having more American content than Harley-Davidson or Ford . . nah . . . we'll wait. Here . . . I'll go ahead and get this out of the way as well to keep other folks from having to dig it up.

I have never seen a Buell that had "Made in America" on it. (Someone please prove me wrong!) I saw MADE IN CHINA on the rear rim last night, perhaps thats where the bike really came from. |

Nah . . . . common source of flawed information regarding Buells. The domestic content has changed, risen and fallen, throughout the years from the days that Jim welded all the frames in his farm shop . . . to the days that frames started production in Italy and eventually returned to the United States of America. Funny side benefit . . . you'd be amazed how many jobs Buell has created (and how much revenue in terms of hotels, travel, rental cars and stuff) as a result of people from around the world coming to little East Troy, WI to do business. It's really . . . . when you dig in and look . . pretty fascinating. |

By the way,the heated hand grips are crafted with pride in Germany by Magura. But with the American Motorcyle sticker, it was a little easier to explain the origin of the bike. |

It's a world economy now. Our motorcycles are made from parts, as Court's poster illustrates, from all over the world. AMERICAN INGENUITY is what recognized the best builders and suppliers, and brought all those parts together, though, and turned them into a functional, amazing, complete motorcycle. An AMERICAN motorcycle. |

I was actually considering putting the Erik Buell Racing logo on the cover as well. Which sticker did you use for that? (I do have an Erik Buell Racing sticker on my topcase). |

Without saying "Made in" it doesn't mean anything. We have brands these days like Full Bore USA tires which are designed in Japan and made in Korea, Detroit Electric cars which are 100% Chinese, and I'm fairly certain that there is nothing American about the chains of gas stations called "USA Gas" and "American Gas". Hell, it is even possible to use loopholes and legally use "Made in USA" despite it not really being made here. |

This is interesting considering what Erik said at dinner during HC. He has issues with all his American suppliers and none from the foreign ones. America has seemed to have lost it's ability to give a rat's behind. Whenever I have to rebuild something I look for ways to improve it so it doesn't break as soon. I'm afraid this is not shared by many of my cohorts that see a flaw and call it job security. This attitude is one reason for Erik's complaint. I knew exactly where he was coming from and it's a damn shame! So many Americans seem to have this desire for instant gratification and they can't see how their decisions harm the future. |

I noticed that my '08 reads "Buell American Motorcycles" on the left-side frame sticker, at the steering head. The cam box cover has "East Troy WI USA" printed, but I guess that it does not say "made in". |

The image came from Cycle World several years ago. The "Made in America" discussion tends to get mired down in minutia . . . . The "American" part I like is the spirit . . not just the parts. I like that a group of very talented, passionate and committed folks have joined forces to become more than the sum of their parts . . . to design, engineer, source and produce a world class machine. It is world class. Ask the folks who get their asses handed to them weekly by Harald and the folks from Pegasus Race Team. The new crop of Buells . . . which you will likely be seeing sooner rather than later . . will allow this group, without having to gain the consent of a bunch of folks at HD, nor fettered by concerns about how "Buell doing something amazing may reflect on HD" . . .I'm excited. There are concerns, I see them in my work daily, with American firms. I've been trying to get some micropile foundations done for 2 months. All I got from local contractors was how tough, have to be done on weekends, requirements for precision would be difficult . . . I listened for 2 months (while I was approaching my summer months where I can't take transformers off the grid)to whining, excuses, "we'll try but can't . . " . . Yesterday and today . . and firm from County Kerry, Ireland is here in Westchester County . . . found them by accident, they listened to the problems and, instead of giving me a list of all the reasons "why not" . . arrived with solutions and . . perhaps more importantly . . their word meant something . . they said they would have it done by next Monday . . we are working around the clock this weekend (great excuse to ride the Uly to check on them) and will have it done. Many of us. . . the baby boomers . . recalll a time when you word was better than a written contract. Don't get me started. |

"Many of us. . . the baby boomers . . recalll a time when you word was better than a written contract." You don't have to be a "boomer" to appreciate that ethic Court.......... ....of course you do have to be raised by people that live it. |
