I read all of Hugh's excellent writeup describing his 2007 crank issue and sat back, took a deep breath and thought how does one with a 2007 know whether he will eventually have an issue around 28-30k miles or not? I'm not going off the deep end here but definitely there's some question now based on Erik Buell Racing's response about there being a bad batch of cranks used by Harley in an engine production lot. I'd like to collect more info in addition to the 4 documented so far of 2007 Ulys ( plus other XBs?) to get some idea of what's happening. Any 2007 owners out there that care to contribute to the knowledge base on crank failures involving 2007 XB bikes please feel free to chime in. All I'm trying to do is determine what mfr dates are seeing issues and those that are not. With that info maybe one can tell who has an upcoming problem. Mine is a 2007 Uly, mfr date 6-06, 6050 miles ( yeah, it's one of several bikes). (Message edited by jomartijr on June 10, 2011) |

Mine is a production date of June '07, so way off from Hugh's which I believe had a build late in '06. |

Sept 06' here. I'm at about 9300 miles right now. (Bought it used a few months ago with 6k on it. Previous owner obviously was a big rider...) I'd love to see what we come up with here. Ever since Hugh's write up, I've been nervous about my bike. |

Mine was built November 2005, one throttle body shaft broken, no any other major issue. |

VIN numbers might be of some use as Skifastbadly pointed out. Mine is 4MZDX03D673700041, mfd June 06. |

My VIN is 4MZDX03D173700481, mfd Sept 06. I'll have to look and see if there's any kind of identification number on the crank assembly someplace; that might tell us more. EDIT- I just looked, and the only markings I see are casting numbers on the inside of the flywheels; I doubt they're unique to my crank assembly. (Message edited by Hughlysses on June 11, 2011) |
