I’ve been off of BadWeb for a bit, but this is the write up of the XT pipe from Dean. It was pretty simple the way it happened. (mostly, but I will get to that) I pm’d Dean and said I want a pipe. Dean sent several emails with updates and to ask how I wanted the tips done, he sent a teaser pic of the pipe every now and then to show how the build was coming along. When it was finished, he shipped it. Easy enough right? Well, it would have been IF the driver for FedEx would have delivered it to MY house. Now, I’m not knocking FedEx because they were all over trying to figure out where my pipe went, but the delivery driver was a freakin moron because he couldn’t read the big ass 3” numbers on the front of my house. He actually delivered it to a neighbor who opened it thinking it was something from her husband. As she was scratching her head wondering why the f*** she got a muffler in the mail, she realized it wasn’t hers. She was kind enough to bring it over to me. When questioned, the stupid delivery driver swore he delivered it to my house and the next day he and a supervisor came out to see why I was claiming to have never received the package. As he was knocking on the neighbor’s door to see if she still had the package, my wife walked out onto our porch and yelled, “Hey! We live over here.”, as she was pointing at our house number. Then the driver realized that he, indeed, could not read numbers. Guy never did apologize, just admitted that he delivered to the wrong house. Anyway, back to the pipe…Pipe was unfinished as requested. Welds are good. Tips are just like I asked for. Dean did a nice job. It would shortly become the victim of my first ever attempt at powder coating. I went over to a friend’s house, who has a powder coat set up out in his garage. Cleaned the muffler and pipe up and shot them with satin black. Put em in the oven and let them cook. Once cooled down enough to handle, they came out purty, even if the powder was a little thin in a couple of spots around the tips, totally my fault with the prep work. The install wasn’t hard. Only thing I can gripe about is the fact that I nicked the powder coat in a couple of spots while working the rear clamps past the idler pulley. Now, I bolted this thing up on a Friday night. It was about 2200 when I was to the point where I could light it off. Keep in mind that my wife works on Saturdays so she would already in bed. Since it was late I had the garage door closed cause it was still a little chilly out. Anyway, key on: check. Ignition switch on: check. Evil little giggle as I stab the starter button: check. OMG!!! I almost had an Iraqi flashback. It was like mortars dropping in a thunder storm! In the enclosed garage it was LOUD! I had just started doing the happy little monkey dance around the bike when I realized that my wife was supposed to be asleep so I shut er down real quick. I slipped into the house and yes she was awake. She wanted to know what was going on. I told her I had just started the bike and she said the whole house was vibrating. I just realized that I don’t have any close up pics of it on the bike. Guess I’ve riding too much to worry. Impressions: It is a little louder than I anticipated, but it is a nice deep rumble. In the twisties with the tach around 5 or 6 K this thing absolutely roars. There is no sneaking in and out of the housing area anymore. I normally wear earplugs when riding and now they are a must. Depending on what crowd you are riding with it is either really loud or if you are riding in a heard of Harleys, it seems almost quite. I like it a lot, but it may be a little too loud for some depending on what you like. I’ve got a before and after sound clip if I can figure out how to get em on here. Thanks Dean. There is more to a pipe than how loud it is. Have you ever run your Buell without the muffler? You should do it just once. I have. | ||

I'd like to hear it, been trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my rusty stock pipe. Going to have to check out his site on the price also. |
