I need to replace my Idle Air Control Sensor. This is a warranty repair 1hour but when I showed up with the bike they said it was a 3hr job. I was looking in the service manual and what I see of the IAC sensor it looks to be accessed from the top of the airbox. Anyone concur? Just curious if there is more to this than appears. |

One hour easily. Remove airbox, unplug cable, 2 screws out, pull unit, insert new unit, two screws in, reinstall airbox. Been there, done that... |

Part # P0282.5AA Is this just a sensor? I could not find a specific area in the Service Manual dealing with changing this part. If it is the sensor it looks easy enough. |

Reason I'm curious about the part # is when the dealer told me about the 3hrs vs 1hr. He made comments about the Throttle Bodies and some stepper motor etc. I thought to myself. Do these guys know what they are doing? Don't you just need to change a sensor? My error codes P0511 Idle Air control circuit Fault, P0506 Idle Air control system RPM higher than expected. |

Does it matter, really? If they're going to fix it for free, don't worry about whether its going to take them one hour or three. They're thinking electronic-throttle probably, like on the touring HDs. But, there's not much they can screw up once they get into it other than stripping a torx screw. |

The IAC is a stepper motor attached to a valve. I'm not certain it has a sensor in it unless it's an encoder to sense position. It installs in a port in the throttle body. |

Ratbuell, I hear what you are saying, however it matters when the service guy tells you on the phone to bring the bike in, 1hr, you can wait while we do the fix. I get their and have to go back home because it is gonna take 3 hrs and they can't get it done before closing. Reschedule for another day. |

Rwven, Thanks for the info. Is this stepper moter the same part you changed yourself in a few minutes? Thanks |

Yes, that's the part. |

The part number you listed is the IAC actuator, not a sensor. I do believe Rwven is correct about the sensor being part of the entire unit. |
