Well, must not have knocked on wood lately. I've had my first break down on the Uly. For those interested in the stat's. The belt snapped at 22,167 miles. The Uly is a 2009 XT built August 8th 2008. But, she was kind enough to break while leaving home, after the weekend and not before it! Went to visit my friends for the weekend put about 370 miles on her over the course of it. The last 90 miles or so she just didn't feel quiet right, but believe / believed that to be the work of a bad / loose head bearing. I developed the "Tick" that many have heard upon hitting the front breaks a little hard. At first I didn't know what it was, but the second time, I recognized it for what many have reported hear. With out BWB I'd would been a little more clueless. I'll do the loosen / re tighten procedure, and hope for the best! Went to ride her tonight, and put the bike in gear, only to go nowhere So now I need a belt. I will be checking / calling American Sport Bike tomorrow. I'm scheduled to go on a run this next weekend to Mississippi, and need it by Thursday, Friday at the latest. Any suggestions on where to go other than American Sport Bike? A place a guy with less than $200.00 to spend on one can score? |

Hmm, I have recently developed that "tick" as well. Is it safe to assume I should check or get the head bearings checked soon? |

Yes! There are threads on here talking about it. A common thing to try is: Try loosening the lower clamp bolts on the triple trees. Remove handlebars. ( just set them down on a towel laying on the breather cover) Loosen the clamp bolt on the steering head nut. ( the chrome round allen nut) Now break loose the allen nut and retighten to factory torque specs. Tighten the clamp bolt. Tighten the lower triple tree clamp bolts. Install handlebars. If you still have the clicking sound then you need to replace the bearings. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/615291.html I have a red XT like Loyd.... So hope retightenig will work, and not just for a few weeks! |

Hangetsu, I see you have an 09 as well. How many miles are you at? Wonder if this is to be an 09 "thing"? |

My 09 had the tick. Under warranty, tech loosened all the bolts in the front end, tapped around to let everything settle, re-torqued, it has been fine since. I believe it happened at about 14k, have 32k on her now. |

Whisperstealth, I'm just coming up on about 18,000. I probably first noticed the click about 1K ago. It hasn't become any more frequent or louder, but I will check it out ASAP. |

Pottero72, Do you happen to know if the tech loosened the axle bolts as well? Thanks! |
