Has anyone ever seen padding that you can velcro into a helmet, something to make it fit nice n snug like on the cheek or back neck? I bought a used helmet that fits well, it's just not as snug as I would like it. Or even cheek pads that I could swap out of the helmet. The current ones are glued in. I've seen padding like that for kids bike helmets, but can't find anything like that for motorcycle helmets. Why did I buy a used helmet? It's a nice AGV with a very cool Buell paint job that I'll never find again. |

I don't know how much your used helmet was actually worn, but if it has a removable liner, a replacement liner from the manufacturer would usually give you a more snug fit until, of course, it gets broke in. That might be worth a try, especially if the former owner had a slightly bigger head than yours. |

Some helmets (Shoei for one) have replaceable cheek pads that come in different sizes. Depending on where your "new" helmet is not snug enough, you may be able to remove the stock padding and substitute some of these. They're attached with velcro so you'd have to provide your own adhesive backed mating velcro in the helmet. |

My two cents would be to not risk the safety of your noggin with an ill fitting helmet. Especially if the padding has to be modified from stock to fit. Maybe buy a fairly good quality new helmet, that fits properly, in plain white and have it painted? |

RF-1000 had removable cheek pads only. Everything can be replaced in the RF-1100. As for the X-11/12 and the cheaper models, I don't know how much is replaceable. I replaced the cheek pads in my 1000 to squeeze a few more months of use out of it. It was almost 5 years old anyway, so I ended up buying an 1100 in a size smaller than the 1000 had been. It sucked dealing with an uncomfortably tight helmet for the first couple of weeks, but now that it's broken in it's a much better fit than the too-loose broken in 1000 was. |

If it is not snug, it does not fit. If it does not fit, it won't perform properly in a crash. Extra padding may bridge the gaps, but won't solve the real problem. It's like stuffing the toes of too-large boots. |

you can get D.O.T. helmets for under $100, I wouldn't risk my brain and skull on a jerry-rigged helmet. |

ya, I get all that about helmets. I already have two new helmets that fit me perfectly(one full face, one half face). This one is more or less a spare for a passenger that might have a larger head then me. I got it cheap and like I said, it's got unique graphics. No big deal, I'll keep poking around. Just thought I'd see if there's something out there I don't know about. |

Most helmets now a days have 2 or 3 different shell sizes, and which liner they install in the shell determines the actual size. See if a replacement liner is available. |
