Hang out on BWB more often. The parts situation is not as bad as it may appear. Plus people here know where to get parts. Get out and ride! You have a RARE 2010 X! Go enjoy it : )

As long as you aren't ordering from Chicago Harley you should have no problem getting stuff.

Don,

Dont listen to these guys..... There are NO parts available for your Uly whatsoever....

Your only logical course of action would be to sell me your Uly so you wouldnt have to worry about such things

I feel I would really be taking one for the team here haha.

..... In all seriousness though, I havent had any issues with parts yet (we will see once I order the yellow flyscreen and airbox cover for my Uly).

Hey by the way, I found a "Quick Reference Guide" for your GPS. If you PM me your address I will send it out to you, or maybe I could take a ride and deliver it to you and drool over your bike!

I can't imagine how all these vintage bikes remain running.I can't believe there are still old Triumphs,BSA's,Vincents etc on the road.

As someone mentioned in another thread, some times motorcycle parts come from the hardware store. Lowes, Home Depot, Westlake, etc.

Many times I've found simple things to be much cheaper from these places than they would be from the dealer anyway. Plus every time I perform one of these "shade tree mechanic" fixes, my bike gets that much more original.

As long as enough people continue to ride them, there will be a need to replace parts and stock parts and sell parts and keep the cycle going.

I've owned Brit bike(s) for over 25 years and while there were brief periods of parts availability 'famine', there have been more periods of feast and it continues to this day.

In the last decade, I've not flinched once at the thought of buying an old Brit twin or air head Beemer (currently wrestling with a 1957 R60) because of parts availability.

Ride it and enjoy it. When it breaks, then get tense, if you must.

I have never had a problem getting parts for my Buells.
I just ordered the little plastic end caps for the bars on my XT, and they came in in less than a week. So far, H-D has kept its word; as far as I'm concerned.

I'm currently trying (and puckering) to get parts for a 1958 Aston Martin DB Mk III. Now THAT should scare you!

Thanks for the reply's
I'm not needing anything now but looking to the future. Like drive belts. Not sure how H.D. handled the inventory or if the just threw it out like everything else.

Nice try Chris, I just finished dolling it up.
Did you notice the MadStad bracket? Works great.

I think you'd be wise keep a few often needed parts on hand. I have an extra belt, extra rear bearings, a few gaskets and oil filters on hand so that I don't have to wait for a dealer to get them to me when I really need them.

I agree on keeping "wear items" around just to have 'em.

Belt, under the topcase.
Clutch cable, under the seat.
Wheel bearings, in the operators tube.
Brake pads, on the shelf in the garage.
Spark plugs and wires, also on the shelf.

I don't do it out of "the sky is falling I can never get them again" mentality...I do it out of "my bike broke, it's a simple part, I should have the damn thing here on a shelf somewhere because I want to ride tomorrow".

I also have a spare 4.0 Jeep engine; THREE shelves full of spare 2.2 Mopar turbochargers; a shelf full of 2.2 turbo Mopar ECMs; a shelf of 2.2 turbo alternators; another full of PS pumps; another with water pumps; one full of cylinder heads and manifolds; and three more with CV driveshafts.

"spare parts is good parts".

Am I afraid I'm close to end-of-service for any of my Buells? Not a chance. But if I break a clutch cable...and put a new one on...I have some time to get another replacement to put on the shelf. If the new one breaks immediately, I need to blame myself and re-read the manual : )

Spare parts are ok to a point. I'd rather invest my spare money and actually see wealth growth then put my money in spare parts inventory and maybe go broke in the process. Spare parts are the purview of the dealer.
