Two '08 XB12XTs for sale in my area--one for $7000 and one for $7200--both with about 4000 miles on them. Both appear to be in good shape from the pictures and I am test riding one today. I don't get the sense that these prices are a steal, but what is a fair price for these bikes? Any other suggestions for what I should look/look out for? Thanks in advance for the help! (This is a bit of a change for me, I've ridden two different Water Buffalos for 20 years and am interested to see how these compares! I have high hopes!) |

Zimbra- ~$7000 seems to be about the middle of the price range for 08 Uly's these days. I've seen similar bikes for anywhere from $5100 to $8500. The only significant issue with the 08's was that the Buell monkeyed around with the fueling a good bit on the early bikes. The early production models got worse fuel mileage than the 06/07 models (~40 MPG vs. ~50 MPG). The dealerships updated the ECM programming whenever the bikes were brought in, so as long as the bike was serviced at some point in the last couple of years, it should be good. In 2010, they introduced another ECM update that changes how the cooling fan is controlled, the point being to make it run less at low speed and after the bike is shut off. These bikes may or may not have been updated with that. As far as mechanical issues, the only thing of note is that the rear wheel bearings have been an occasional problem. You just need to keep an eye on them and replace when required. If you really want to fix them, you can still buy a 2010 rear wheel which has 3 larger bearings compared to the pre-2010 wheel and it has separate external seals that are better at keeping contamination out of the bearings. The total cost of the update parts (wheel, axle, spacer, bearings, and seals) is around $400. There's a lot of useful information in the separate "Uly New Owner's Forum" here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442053.html?1238017122 Enjoy your test ride. |

What Hugh said, plus you'll probably also want to get the comfort kit for the bike, which greatly reduced the amount of heat felt on your right leg. The comfort kit is made up of a right side scoop and a fan shroud. The latest (2010) ECM update which changes the way the fan runs also impacts the amount of heat reaching the rider. Enjoy the test ride - be careful though - I suspect that you'll notice the front wheel seems to want to leave the pavement a bit more than on your Water Buffalos... |

Thanks Hugh and Trev for the tips! When I posted the original message the server gave me a little notice about the new users section... Don't underestimate the buffalo, as a 520# 750cc two-stroke it still packs a punch.. Wheelies aren't my thing 'tho.

Hi Bingbingz! I just saw your ad yesterday on craigslist (the red one, right), If it dries out (and I think it is beginning to) I was planning to test ride several bikes today. Are you available to show the bike later today? |

I work at 2 until 130 tonight. I'm off all weekend though. The bike is ready as far as that goes...cleaned up and serviced. Just waiting for a buyer. I am home all day tomorrow and will do my best to work with your schedule. Here's my number (920) 570-3615 Jim |

All right, guys! I ended up buying the Uly! Rode it back last night 53 miles in 40-something degree weather but even the cold couldn't keep me from enjoying the ride!

The Erik Buell Racing race ECM is the first thing I would install. It will smooth the engine out a lot. Don't worry about the comfort kit till you see what the heat feels like to you in the summer. Heated grips are sweet, aren't they? |

Riding back in the cold I really enjoyed the heated grips. I only turned them to the first setting but by the end of the trip I was thinking I should have tried the higher setting. The engine warmth wasn't bad at all given the temperature! |

Congrats!! Welcome aboard! Your engine is barely breaking in still. It will gain in power and fuel mileage the more you ride it. Have fun! |
