I burned up the original clutch after I cracked the primary case and didn't realize all the oil ran out ( yeah, I know)
Anyway I put a new Energy One Clutch, followed the instructions, and it still won't engage.
I do have two plates left over but according to the instruction I put the 7 plates it requires. BTW I have a 2006 Ulysses.
Do I need another plate in the clutch pack? Or did I screw up something else?

Go immediately to the Knowledge Vault, drivetrain, and clutch section.
Search for my lengthy, detailed, post on my experience putting in an Energy One clutch on a 2006 Uly.
Learn from my pain.
You cannot go by what Energy One told you. They are wrong (or at least were back in 2008).
If you cannot find it, let me know and I'll send you a link.
My clutch has been great since my last post on the matter, and I still have (most) of the E One plates in it.

Jim, How many miles did you get out of your stock Uly clutch? How many miles have others gotten before needing replacement?

Mine failed at less than 9K miles.
I say "failed" because no normal clutch would wear out in such a short time, without massive abuse.
It did fail on a very slow, rocky, jeep type trail, but it was nothing I haven't done many times before on other street and dirt bikes.
That was the main driver in me lowering the gearing afterwards.
It's all spelled out on the Knowledge vault posting I mentioned above.

I smoked mine in one afternoon while practicing "friction zone" manouvers. Found a low mileage used one online off of a 9 and used the gearing change and clutch plates from it for less than the cost of the plates alone.
